That was my thinking as well. For me and our flight patterns, it appears to be a positive change.

Well, I guess they got me. Based in YVR with frequent trips to NRT (<10k mi r/t), I switched out of Aeroplan for Asiana Club this January. On the old chart, a *A award on this route is 55k Y/80k J/ 110k F; from next June it will be 80/120/160 -- a full class downgrade. Ouch.

As others have mentioned, I guess the silver lining for C1 left-coasters is flying to Europe -- going to e.g. IST will drop from 78/115/150 to 50/80/100.

This could be a detrimental change - I agree that the English information in the Asiana site is unclear, though.

Have they announced if they are keeping round the world flights? If so how many miles / how many stopovers will they allow?

I do think that it is extremely positive giving 15 months notice. There have been some airlines that have changed with absolutely no notice (BA comes to minds since they didn't reveal the details of their new mileage tables until the day of the changeover to Avios) and most give only a month or two.

15 months advance notice is very generous, even if the changes are negative (and for some they seem to be positive).

I will miss the mileage based awards since they were pretty much unique in Star Alliance and therefore offered something different (i.e. if you wanted a lot of stopovers or a more complex award, Asiana could offer good value).

An update has now been posted on the Asiana website clarifying the segment based deduction. The mileage table refers to a round trip journey and no stopovers > 24 hrs. Unlimited transits <24 hrs are allowed within the maximum permitted mileage MPM of the ticket.

Where a stopover > 24 hrs is made then additional mileage is deducted for your he jourmey between stopover points. Maximum of 7 stopovers allowed in overall MPM.

As per the example in the website if journey is A-B-C reutrn
A-B (<24 hr transit)-C(destination)-B (<24hr transit)-A charge is A-C return mileage
A-B (> 24hr stopover)-C (destination)-B (<24hr transit)-A charge is sum of one way charges A-B + B-C + C-A

So the great multi city redemptions with OZ will be a thing of the past.

They have basically switched to the same format as AA/United. Only good things I saw was North America-Europe for 50k or Hawaii for 30k. Everything else is worse than AA/United.

Journey out of S/E Asia is affected negatively with this new chart.

USA seems to have the best benefits, less miles for those longer flights.

Imagine a First class on LH 380 LAX-FRA-EURelsewhere-ZRH-SFO with 100k? wow!!
Or a business class SFO-IAH-EZE-BOG-JFK on UA/AV for 70k!? With the old (current chart) you need 78k just for Economy class award!!

Any ideas about Partner Awards?
Will this scheme be applied with award on Etihad/Qatar flights?
I'm looking to try out Qatar 787 and/or 380 bespoke B/E Biz class,
though I know that award with QR will be terminated soon as QR is joining OneWorld.

Many thanks everyone.

Does the new chart apply if you book before June 4 but travel after that?

No. If you book and ticket before June 4, the old chart applies.

That's great! Planning on a Micronesia award from HNL and would love the extra stops. Thanks for the info!

New award chart

Does anyone have a working link to the new *A award chart, or a copy they can paste her?

I'm trying to decide if I want to redeem before or after the change, but that's kinda hard to do without the new award chart!
