Hanoi and Halong Bay in December ... weather question

I'm going to be in Saigon in early December and was looking at going up to Hanoi and doing a trip on Halong Bay. I'm getting some mixed messages on what to expect in terms of the weather. A guide book and several websites I've checked say expect25C for the high, which sounds fine to me, and little or no rain. Meanwhile, a TA in Vietnam I've been emailing with tells me not to go up there then because it will be too cold and will be drizzling.

What are your experiences with weather in Hanoi and Halong Bay during early December? Comfortable? Any reason not to go there then?

Thanks

I've been swimming in the water in Halong Bay in late November - no special gear.

Unless things change rapidly in two weeks, you'll be OK.
