Thumbs up Jin Jiang Tower Hotel-Shanghai

Decided to try a Chinese managed hotel this time while visiting Shanghai. Chose the Jin Jiang Tower Hotel located in the French Concession area.

The hotel is 42 stories tall and does not have any other tall buildings in close proximity so the views are pretty spectacular. On the 41-42 floors there is a revolving restaurant and a bar. Had complimentary breakfast in the restaurant, which was a mix of western and chinese food...quite good for buffet style. At the lobby level there is a glass exterior elevator that offers a very nice ride and view of the Jingan area...goes to the restaurant on the top floor.

Room was larger than average size for a standard room, furnishings a bit dated, but clean. Hotel has in house spa, fitness area, and shopping on 2nd floor.

The really nice feature of this hotel is the location. Just walk out the door and you are in the center of the best shopping in Shanghai...fashionable boutique stores are on Changle Rd. and Shanxi Rd. Plus just a couple blocks to the stores on Huaihai Rd. Lots of good bars and restaurants are just minutes away.

The cost for the room was RMB988 which includes breakfast...Would suggest this hotel as an alternative to the Garden Hotel a couple blocks away. ^

Paid RMB 988 for Sat & Sun nights = USD 122 per night. Mon night RMB 1088 = USD 134 per night. Have to check the receipt to see if they add 15% surcharge. Garden Hotel a few blocks away is very nice also ,but their price is usually USD200 per night...They do have discounts during Chinese Holidays and Christmas time...if you have a Chinese resident book your room you can get the special price of USD100 per night which is a good deal.

When I was checking prices on C-Trip I saw that the Hyatt was RMB5000 per night which is over USD600 per night. The hotel must have been pretty full to come up with that rate. Went over to the Hyatt to have a drink in the Cloud 9 bar which is on the 87 or so floor. Seems only saw Americans and Europeans there. Nice Hotel...stayed there when they first opened... unreal view when its clear out! The Hyatt is a good hotel for first time visitors to Shanghai...gives a very nice impression and makes a first timer feel safe as its isolated location is kind of like an oasis.
