Late December SFO-BKK flights--when to buy?
I'm planning to fly round-trip from SFO-BKK in late December. I prefer United/Star Alliance carriers, but might be flexible for the right price. Right now the fares I'm seeing are about $1100-1500, which seems a little high; will flights get cheaper closer to late December? When's the time they'd be at their cheapest, from people's experience with this itinerary?

In the past 3-4 years, at least NW and maybe UA have offered very good fares for post X-mas to New Year fares (search the NW forum). These generally appear mid-late September. I've purchased YVR/SEA-BKK BC fares on NW from anywhere from $1,500-1,800!

I should have been clearer in my original post--I unfortunately don't have a ton of flexibility in my dates (I am definitely seeing really cheap post-Xmas fares right now)--I'd be departing around December 20-23, and returning hopefully on the 30th or 31st.

My experience in the last couple for years on UA, is that that is a very reasonable fare for that period. I am booking HNL-BKK in September, which is usually a cheap fare month at about $1200. I would probably grab your fare if it was important to me. Have a great time in BKK.
