Way more gun violence in the US than Indonesia. Don't be Chicken Little.

If you were heading to Syria, sure, there would be cause for alarm.

There are certainly folk at the airport who speak little to no English, but they are usually not frontline employees. For your flight, I'd guess the desk will open 3 hours in advance.

The Sheraton is pretty overpriced if you pay cash, but I recall cheap with points. It's hot and muggy at night mostly, but the airport is an interesting place.

There is a Circle K inside terminal 3. Grab some cold water and snacks, if they're open before heading to Terminal 2.

I wouldn't have any worry about safety. In my 8+ years of living here I have never felt unsafe. I feel much safer in Jakarta and Surabaya than in my hometown of Los Angeles.

The Sheraton could be a good call if you are using points, if you give them your flight details they will have someone waiting for you when you clear customs and are exiting the airport. Also, I believe the Spa at the Sheraton is 24/7 as well.

Also, there is a FM7 hotel near the airport as well, but I don't have any experience with it.

Does anyone know if there's an Apple authorised reseller at Jakarta Airport?

There was one at DPS, but a few weeks ago noticed that it's now gone. Rather they were "authorized" or not is unclear, but I did buy a brand new iPhone 6 there last year.

How much time should I allow for a connection on two separate tickets at CGK? I would fly DPS-CGK on Garuda and then CGK-DXB on Oman Air in J. I have a choice between a 2 hour and a 4 hour connection. Which one would be best?

A four-hour connection is advisable.

I have a quick trip to Jakarta coming up next week. I understand that traffic is pretty horrific. What time do I need to leave my hotel (Le Meridien) to catch a 9:55 PM flight to NRT on a Sunday via taxi? And what is the approximate cost of taxi? Thanks.

Sunday night isn't too bad. I would leave at 6:30pm to be safe.

About 180-220k IDR for a Bluebird taxi.

Normal blue bird (the blue Color) is around 100k. That rate is more on silver bird, the higher end of blue bird, black Mercedes car. Weekend tend to be jam around grand Indonesia, so ask the driver, to make turn at Casablanca. Right after exit the hotel make a u turn, then another u turn to elevated bridge.

Just took Blue Bird last weekend. Since they lowered their rates by a little bit (flag from 7000IDR to 6500IDR) the price went down a bit.

Metered on a weekday at 5.30am from Intercontinental/Le Meridien area was 105,000 or thereabouts, + 15,000 toll and tips, you are looking around 140k IDR or so.

Coming back on Sunday afternoon, meter was 120k with 15,000 toll and 9,000 surcharge from airport and tips, so around 165k

New Terminal opening June 15, 2016

According to the local paper:

There is a new terminal, 3 Ultimate, that is opening next week. Not to be confused with the normal terminal 3.

Things are going to be crazy for a bit. Garuda domestic and international will be moving here on June 15th.

Air Asia for some cities is moving to terminal 2.

Other international airlines will be moving from 2 to 3U January 1st, 2017.
