Immunizations for Malaysia/Maldives?

Planning a trip for late March. We've already had Hep A/B a few years ago for a trip to Bali - but didn't get the typhoid shot at that time.

Reserching now and it seems like typhoid immunization is recommended for this area but also that it is only 50-80% effective.

Is it really necessary?

Thanks!

They're both big tourist destinations and I'd venture 99% of people don't get typhoid shots before they go

You don't need any specific vaccinations for the Maldives, although it's recommended you keep up to date with all the 'general routine' shots for travel abroad.

While it's not strictly necessary to get a typhoid shot, there's no reason not to, and if you decide to travel elsewhere in the next couple of years where it's really needed, at least you'll have done it already.

Typhoid oral lasts 5 year so if you'll continue to be traveling it's a no brainer.

We did ours for Honduras and it covered us for our recent Malaysia trip. When it got close to the 5 year point, we did it again for Thailand.

It depends on where you go and stay. If you stay mainly in the touristy areas then it shouldn't be an issue. If you want to venture of the beaten path it might be recommended.

Anyway, it couldn't hurt (except for the actual needle ) to get the shot!
