Reviving this old thread...my family and I (American Citizens) will be going to Bali for 5 nights later this month. We arrive on Emirates through Dubai.
It appears we do not have to have a Visa unless we are planning on extending our stay over 30 days...which we definitely will not.
So, we are allowed to enter without the VOA, correct?

I am thinking of applying for a visa because I want to stay more than 30 days (really 29). Requirements include a letter from an employer. But my traveling companion free lances and mostly lives on a trust fund. Any advice on handling this? (Have no problem with the bank account provisions.)

Just write a letter and say this. Or pay the $35 and apply for an extension.

The problem with an extension is that we're divers and won't be anywhere near anywhere for long enough to get an extension.

Reviewing a old thread.

I'm planning on staying in Indonesia for 35 days and will be needing the 30+30 days visa extension.
Don't know if this have any relevance? I'll be arriving in CGK and from there travelling around, with the longest time spent on Bali.
Can I get the extention on arrival or is it more complicated?

Usually you can apply up to a week before your thirty days is up.

I know a decade ago, I used a local agent in Bali to get an extension. As far as I know, you can’t do it upon your initial entry. I’ve been a permanent resident for the last 9 years or so, no idea if the VOA rules are the same for extensions anymore. I know you used to be able to apply through the Indonesian Embassy for a 60 day visa.

Thank, you for the reply
Do you know where I can apply for the extension?
Due to corona, that is what it says on the embassy Web site, it is not possible to obtain visas through that channel.
