Can I do International - international transfer in DPS airside.?

I will be arriving in DPS from SIN aboard KLM and departing to DRW on Jetstar just over 2Hours later.

Having a problem finding out information for this airport and whether airside transfers are possible without the need to buy a visa and go landside to the check in desks.

If I need to go landside, I know Jetstar desks close 1Hr before departure so i wont have too much time to watse and would prefer to know in advance if I should be heading for a transit desk or the arrivals hall the moment I get off the plane...

Sorry to say, probably not.

Budget airlines like Jetstar generally do not allow interlined (checked through) baggage from one flight to another, let alone a different airline on a different frequent flyer program (KLM is SkyTeam, while Jetstar is OneWorld). But the best people to ask is KLM, as it would be their job to check it through.

If you can still change your flights, it might be worth investigating whether you can get off the KLM plane in Singapore and get a flight to Darwin from there. According to Wikipedia Jetstar and Silk Air (Singapore Airlines' partner airline) fly between Singapore and Darwin.

If you cannot change your flights, make sure you are sitting at the front of the KLM flight. See related hints and tips for speeding the process of international arrival in Indonesia here.

By the way, you will also need to buy a tourist visa to "enter" Indonesia: $US25. The fastest way is to bring exact change of $US banknotes.

I don't think you can make this work - specially if you have checked luggage.
I tried a connect between QR and Air Asia.
It was though immigration I went, spent $25 USD Visa, scooped up my luggage of the belt, through Customs, out of Arrivals Hall, turn left, 100m jog down to Departures, through Security check, Check In and bag drop, though Immigration, spent Rp150K departure tax, through Security check, sitting at Dept Gate, phew ........
I made it known to Immigration Officers in the Arrivals Hall that I was on a tight Transfer and they did escort me to the front of one of the entry immigration lines.

Good luck

Airport tax

Good point in2it54,

As explained here, Indonesia is one of the few countries where a passenger service charge called "airport tax" isn't included in the price of the ticket. It must be paid in Rupiah cash, when checking in. The good news is it is small: for domestic flights, Rp40 000 ($4.50 €3,50 £3) per person or less at smaller airports; for international flights, Rp150 000 ($16 €13 £11) per person. At DENPASAR (BALI) AIRPORT, domestic airport tax is Rp150 000 per person. We recommend that clients prepare that money in advance, and save it for later.

Fortunately for you, at Denpasar Airport there are a large number of moneychangers with posted rates clearly visible, after passing immigration and customs. They won't take coins, so bring $US20 or €15. $US banknotes must be in perfect/pristine condition; no tears, folds, marks, etc; other currencies' banknotes do not have this condition.

If you want to be sure you aren't getting conned by the moneychanger, please see Rupiah for Visitors. Amongst other hints and tips, it also has pictures of Indonesian Rupiah banknotes and coins.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies..

EC~ Actually, I had found the thread you linked, but as its nearly 5 years old, I decided to ignore it..

TRD~ I will only have carry on luggage so no checked baggage issues that I know would not work with Jetstar. Actually i am only getting on the KLM plane in Singapore which is where I live. Reason for routing from SIN-DRW via DPS is that I have to be at a meeting in DRW on monday morning and the direct JQ flight is silly money for sunday night, Business class on KLM is less than half the price..!

in2it54~ I suspect I will be in the same situation. As im in Business class I can be near the front of the plane getting off and hoof it to immigration pretty quick (im 6ft 5" and run marathons.. :-). I just dont want to lose time looking for a non existent transit desk and then find myself at the back of 300pax rather than the front..

It is a funny situation.
There actually is a Transit Area (with signage) as you arrive. I actually tried the door as I went past, The room was locked and unmanned.
They seem to have this expectation that Transit business will only come from Garuda flights. I asked one of the Arrival Hall attendants about it - he said no transit, but was the person who marched up to the front of the immigration line (once I'd paid my $25).
I'd say, ask someone with a immigration uniform on, as you steam towards the immigration formalities - could help to have a spare $5 note lying around (as a reward for good service).

Thanks. That's exactly what i needed to know.! Looks like its time to give up on the airside transit. I arrived on the same KLM flight a few months ago and probably had a 20-30min queue at the VOA desk so I may pay for one of the concierge arrival services to jump the immigration queue.

I actually have 2Hrs 40min between flights so not quite as tight as I remembered it but just in case I have a delayed inbound...

The lines at DPS depend very much on what time your flight arrives and which flights have arrived before you. Note that after getting through immigration, there is at least one "security" check in the departures area before you get to the check in counter.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.

I have a VA flight into DPS, and SQ flight to SIN on the same day. I will also be travelling with hand luggage only. With the new airport, will there be a transfer facility?

I'll be printing off an SQ boarding pass when I check in online; will this suffice, or will I have to fork up the 35USD?

Thanks!
