Duty Free Wine -BKK or SIN

Hey everybody,

I am going to visit a friend in Singapore next month and I want to bring some wine as a guest present. My last stop before SIN is BKK. Where is it cheaper to buy the wine? Tried to get some information through the websites of the dutx free shops, but unfortunately could not find any prices.

Thank you in andvance for your help!!!

Depends on what kind of wine that you want to buy. In general, BKK is cheaper.

Considering how expensive BKK is that's not putting SIN in a good light.

There is a heavy tax on cigarettes and alcohol in Singapore. DFS is pretty much the cheapest for us, and it is not even that cheap.

FWIW, SIN generally offers a much better selection of wines than BKK.

Bring it from home - yes it's worth lugging it. Last year I bought nice Oz Cab at Changi and the price was OK. Just OK. Kinda like you'd find at an overly expensive wine shop here in SF. Forget BKK, A $6 Chilean Red will cost you $35 at King Power. wj

Rocket, wines at changi duty free are outrageously over priced! Even dearer than at shops in Singapore. PM me if you need assistant. My friend is a wine trader.

Both of those locations have high tax. You're better off bringing it from the Americas or from Europe if you have the opportunity.

I agree with the other posters. Bring it from the US or Europe, and don't buy it at duty free at your departure point.

+1 on everyone. Duty Free wine at SIN and BKK is horribly priced. The liquor is more reasonable.

Thanks for all the input, I will probably bring it from Europe. Just a little scared that the bottles could break and ruin all my clothes.

I've done it 50X. Bubble wrap, plastic bags, & duct tape. Never a mishap.

Never used duct tape, but also have never had a problem with bubble wrap and plastic bags.

Oh, I also wrap a big magazine (like ESPN) around the outside. Hence the need for the duct tape. I think it would make it down 5 flights of stairs. Overkill probably, but UA did snap the shafts of 3 of my golf clubs last year & that ain't easy ! wj
