I am Flying Club gold and so i think i can take a guest in to the Clubhouse (when in economy). However i also have a 4,2 and 1 year old in tow - are they allowed in too? CX let me in all the time with kids but i havent flown with the family on VS before.
any one tried this?

*A* guest is absolutely fine.
A guest with maybe one small child, will *probably* be turned a blind eye to.
3 kids + guest??? You can TRY, but I'd say that's a little unreasonable as far as requests go. There's a finite capacity in there, and a 5-for-1 arrangement hardly seems fair on other passengers.

I think I'd ask with the expectation of being turned down - and then if they do let you all in, it's a bonus. It's certainly not any kind of entitlement (your only entitlement is your +1) and you are asking them to bend the rules rather a lot. The fact that CX does it doesn't really have any bearing on this, as each airline operates its own policy.

I've tried with my wife and 2 kids 4 times:
gatwick - no problem
barbados - no problem
heathrow - problem (in the end I had to pay for one of them. I think it was £25 or £30)
New York - no problem

To be quite frank, its a airline lounge, not a frigging creche...I'm sick to death of paying 3-4 grand for flights only to find that some prat of a parent cant keep their brat under control either in the clubhouse or on the flight.....Lord knows whats going on with vs at times, It seems like they give upgrades out like toffees to any disfucntional parent......last mel to Lhr for me with a screaming brat was the last....

hrm... fantastic first post
I don't really enjoy screaming or misbehaving children anywhere. I know children that behave quite proper at all times, and I know children that are hellions at all times. While I do think it simply comes down to the parenting in most cases, sometimes kids will be kids. Remember that during air travel children, especially toddlers and infants, may have difficulty coping with the painful, unfamiliar, and/or scary feeling inside their ears due to variations in cabin pressure. This may augment any misbehavior in-flight and while it doesn't excuse the screaming or misbehavior, it should earn at least some leeway. I obviously don't have this same view regarding conduct in the lounge / clubhouse.
I think it's a unfair to assume the worst of the OP and clan and a I'd be a touch insulted if I were him/her. Let's hope you never have to take your children (yes, an assumption) anywhere when they misbehave.
I'm sure you never screamed in your (still?) childhood.:td:
Regardless, welcome to FT!

Have to agree with AerOklahoma, one of the best 1st posts I've read. :D

There are so many things wrong with this, not least that VS don't fly from MEL.
I'll simply say, I actually agree an unruly child can really upset flight comfort, it's almost always the parents that are the problem BUT does this really happen as much as people want us to believe. In my experience, no. Once in perhaps 100 flights ... let's keep some perspective and also let's give good parents some leeway.

Children should be treated like dogs.... If children have to travel, we should lock them up at the cargo area with sufficient food and drinks....

I'll take that with a large pinch of salt ... and a good laugh. Children always bring out poles of emotions when flying. I don't have any, fly frequently, and look forward to seeing well behaved children always. Because many children are far more pleasant to travel with than many of the DYKWIAs that fly and post to these fora!
I do have dogs however, and am rather upset by your reference :(.

Are you sure you are paying 3-4 grand or somebody else is? I assume by your clear lack of intellect that maybe you sit in economy and seeth at seeing children up front.
Most travellers in J and F are paid for by their employers while kids are paid for by parents which, since you bring money into it, are more important and richer than you. Also please tell me where you get a 3-4 grand fair, especially if it was MEL-LHR as I would LOVE such cheap travel.
I enjoy your assumptions that all children behave badly while adults are perfect saints. In my experiences I have seen more adults behave badly than children.

Ok guys, since we cannot debate this without making personal attacks on some of the others posting in this thread, and since the topic has veered quite far from the topic of guesting children into the VS Clubhouse into a more general discussion of kiddies while travelling, which has been had a million times before on FT, I think it's time I closed this thread before the attacks get worse.
A reminder - arguing the topic is fine and completely acceptable. Insulting the posters is not.
If the OP wants to update on whether they were allowed to take their children into the lounge, then I'll be happy to re-open to allow that to occur and they should PM me to arrange that.
