I'm not following you. The OP is using an award ticket, which doesn't cost anything. So no points will be awarded.

Well, actually, points are awarded -- zero points. That's what will be recorded in the original poster's account when the ticket is eventually scanned.
However, please see this post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amtrak-guest-rewards/999794-one-time-bonus-redeeming-agr-points-amtrak-travel.html) -- in this special case and if the original poster was targeted, some points would be awarded for the redemption itself.
