Hi Friends - My wife and I are vegetarians since childhood (No chicken, beef or fish in our food.. we eat cheese, egg, and all vegetables). We will be in Mauii for one week in last week of Nov.
Can you please share with us with any restaurant info where you had a vegetarian dish and you really liked it ? I understand I can ask the waiter to remove the meat/chicken from a dish...but, wanted to know if there was a very interesting experience you had with a vegetarian dish :)
I appreciate input.
Thanks.

Many low cost veg restaurants in Maui but most are upcountry (eg non-resort areas) such as Makawao, Haiku, Pukalani and even a nice one or two in Paia. Many come and go but always some are there. These are small towns so drive there, walk around, eat and enjoy.

I'm pretty sure the Cafe Des Amis in Paia had a few vegetarian selections. It is more casual then formal, small menu, serving a combination of Mediterranean and Indian foods. It was quite good.

Cafe des Amis does have quite a lot of vegetarian options. Casual, friendly place with good food - crepes, med platter, etc.
For finer meals, Haliimaile General Store has good vegetarian options (or will modify) as does I'O in Lahaina. Mala in Lahaina is also a good choice.

My wife is an ovo-lacto vegetarian. We have been to Maui maybe 10 or 12 times. 20 years ago it was a problem, but now it really isn't. Almost any restaurant will have vegetarian options.
Our favorite is a place called Longhi's, on Front St in Lahaina. They have an excellent manicotti and all manner of pasta specialties. Highly recommended.

Just eat the fruit there all week. It's like some product from an alien planet. It all tastes so good. I've never had blueberries taste that good before. I'm not sure what you'd do for full meals. I imagine there are vegetarian tricks to it that I don't know of.

And if you have time, since you are willing to eat cheese, go visit the Surfing Goat Dairy! They give tours and samples and sell their goat's milk cheeses, which are also featured at a number of Maui restaurants. www.surfinggoatdairy.com/ is their website. It's pretty upcountry drive to get there.

Can't belive no one suggested the OP try poi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poi_%28food%29) - not sure you'll want to live off it, but its truly Hawaiian ;)
And IIRC I'll be in OGG then too  eating all the Hawaiian food I can :D
