Ok so me and a good friend of mine have a small road trip planned for early October..(13th) - he's a little depressed right now so want it to be a great couple of days..vegas to the grand canyon and back to vegas..
Which of the following 3 cars would you all most suggest being that they all pretty similar in pricing and all are miles unlimited for the trip.. (I had originaly wanted the conv corv. but now sold out :o)..
1 - Infiniti G35/G37 (this is my present fav but open to change) :p
2 - Infiniti M35 (about $40 more expensive then the G35/G37 - is it a much nicer car?)
3 - Ford Mustang Convertible (the cheapest, surely not as nice but hey it's a convertible)
So any thoughts on which to choose?
Thanks!

When are you traveling?
Which rim of the canyon do you plan to visit?
These 2 answers will determine my recommendation.

I just did this trip last month in the corv conv. Maybe they will have one in when you get there and they can upgrade you. Otherwise I would take the G35/G37. It is more fun the the M35. I would not want to be stuck in the base Mustangs they use for 4 hours :)

Did this last year in a Mustang convertible, went all the way around and visited both rims. Yes it was a basic model but we certainly enjoyed the visibility and fresh air with the top down. I guess it's a matter of priorities.

We will be leaving early am on the 14th (around 4am) and back again to Vegas later afternoon of the 14th - it's just a one day trip out to there so we can get back to Vegas for the nights activitys :D
As to Rim, well no idea really as I have never been and just planned on putting Grand Canyon into the never lost system and following directions :o

So you have maybe 14 hours ? That will be quite tight time-wise.
Why not consider an SUV ? You'll see a lot more from the elevated driving position, and driving that distance in an SUV will be a lot less tiring.
OTOH, with time so tight, have you considered flying to FLG ? Perhaps just 1-way and driving back (you can get there by ~10am)
Just my 2 cents....

1) Jeep
2) G37
3) Mustang (2010+)
4) 350z are an option too if Vegas still has one.
I'd pass on the M. Jeep would be the way to go. It's not one of your options, but it'd fit the trip, plus you can go for some light off-roading trips.
Not the G35, G37, M35, etc aren't going to be as much fun to drive as they normally would because they've probably been filled with regular 87 octane gas. If you get 2 tanks of 93 through them, the computer will adjust and the engine will be much more responsive. The 'Stang doesn't suffer from such issues.
The v6 2010 mustangs are pretty nice, especially with the leather seats. I'd pass on a vert unless you really want the top down. I'd pass on a pre- 2009. Plus, they are part of the regular rental pool.
Your best if you want to chance it is to arrive, look at the lot, then negoiate with the manager.

Thanks for the feedback all..
After consideration, I have decided to bite the bullet and pay a little extra to go with the Corvette which I'm sure will be more memorable than driving all that way in a "standard" car.. :)
With a little luck they might have a convertible available when I get there so they can "downgrade" me
Will post a short trip report with some pics when I get back if there is any interest :D

Engine computers listen for knock (sometimes cylinder by cylinder) and adjust a couple hundred times a second - or hertz, as it were, so two tank flushes are hardly necesssary. Further, any V-6 Infiniti is going to be up about 100 hp on a V-6 Mustang or Jeep, an advantage that 87 octane gas is not going to dampen much.
The OP is covering a lot of road miles - all of it paved. The lux sedan idea is far, far better than the SUV.
