We are flying PHX-HNL and I haven't seen anything lately about the digeplayers. Are they worth renting? Does anyone have any information about them? Or should I just load up the laptop and batteries?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure which version is used by HA... AS uses them as well (and actually invented by a former AS baggage handler )
Here's some background info on them from the AS forum: (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alaska-airlines-mileage-plan/784075-digeplayer-dirge-da-daaa-da-daaa-da-daaa-da-daaa-ive-got-you-babe.html)
And specifically the newer XT version: (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alaska-airlines-mileage-plan/999102-digiplayer-xt.html)
So if your battery won't hold out the whole flight, or there is a movie you really want to watch, yes. But if you have preferred content on a larger screen that can fit ok, (and enough battery juice) I'd say choose the laptop.

Recently flew the PHX-HNL leg ... from my calculations, you'll have the digeplayer for just over 4 hours (based on when they pass them out and when they collect them). So, you can pay $15 to watch two movies. Or, you can watch one movie on the big screen and then one movie on your laptop for free. Really depends on what you want to watch - check out Hawaiian's current movie listings here (http://www.hawaiianair.com/services/pages/movies.aspx). Also, you'll see that you have to pay $5 to watch their movies ... I'm not sure how this works but I've never paid to watch a movie and I've always gotten sound.
About the digiplayer batteries ... if they run out, you can get another player/battery for free.

So they have both the big screen movie and dig-e-players? Weird...
Yes they have both digeplayer and standard movies. Still there aren't any good movies on either option. Who knew there were such terrible movies out there?

Just an update...It was nice for us to have one, it makes the time go by faster and we weren't thrilled to watch what was on the big screen.
