Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Campervan New Zealand

I will be travelling from Auckland to Christchurch by campervan over a period of around 56 days starting 4th December 2009.

I am interested in all relevant advice such as

Where to rent campervan
Places to visit
Good websites with help on itinerary and geography
Touring Auckland and later Christchurch on foot/by bus for a few days.

and on a short note, you need to a.) do a lot of hiking and b.) visit the south island. beyond that there is loads of other advice other FTers have given on the subject.
