Overall he seemed happy enough with FR, except the Overpriced food served on board, and the constant adverts blasting through the PA. FR was only NOK 400 cheaper than SAS but the time it took from A to B apparently was a huge minus (guess it depends on where you're going and from where)...

A very sober article by a top person from SAS ^

I think this is the main culprit against Ryanair: it takes for ever to get to Torp and the bus aint cheap either...

But some flights on FR without any fees take you to Stansted for 50NOK...

And I agree, the article was very well balanced, him being impressed by the service, the legroom etc was nice to read.

I cant stand Ryanair, and I never fly them unless they are the only ones flying. However here the other day I was making a reservation to London for me and 4 others. R/T on SK was 8900 NOK for all 5. 5600 on DY and 1200 including one checked bak on Ryanair for 5 persons. Even I could not resist booking them. I guess we have to view it as an experience. if you pay peanuts, you fly monkey class :D

Interesting, and how was the payment fees, checking-in fees, sitting together fees, and of course the transfer costs :p.

The really interesing aspect is that BA has adopted some of this approach as well with its recents moves for charging for bag no. 2 on TATL flights and advance seat allocation fees (even in C).

sitting together fees

FR has a free seating policy (i.e. choose any seat that is vacant), they have Priority Boarding (paid), but from experience (took 1 flight with them this year:D) 'queue up at the gate as early as possible' tactic might also work.

My one and only experience with FR:

I've always tried to avoid them where possible - but earlier this year I bit the bullet and booked hubby on flight from TRP to STN - so he could go watch his favourite team play at wemberly stadium - due to other more important expenses - it was a case of he flew FR or he didn't go.

As it turns out he almost didn't make it anyways. FR is a mediocre airline at the best of times - but it's during IRR Ops that it becomes evident just how little they care about the customers.

Fog at Torp meant that a number of flights that evening had been canceled, his flight was initially delayed and then when the incoming aircraft was diverted to OSL the plan was to bus the pax there, and they even went as far as to get the pax on the bus before it was announced that there was a staffing issue (not entirely sure if this was a case of flight crew going illegal or ground crew not wanting to wait the 1 1/2 hours required to get to OSL) and they were canceling the flight altogether. By this time it was after midnight and there was no public transport options back to OSL so while FR was willing to put on a bus - they of course wanted to charge a premium for it.

Between earlier flights being canceled, and it being the Friday of the weekend at the start of the Easter school holidays, FR were not going to get hubby on a flight before Monday at the earliest, which didn't help him at all, although to be honest this wasn't entirely FR's fault.

As it turned out tickets out of the country the next day were as scares as hens teeth...and thanks to the the Managing Director of the football club hubby was going to see, who paid for what was one of the few remaining seats that was a viable option - an AF flight via CDG (in C no less).

In contrast, coming back on Monday morning everything went as planned, and hubby said the FR flight was 'OK' - nothing special but since nothing went wrong it did an adequate job of getting him from point A to point B....it probably also helped that his team had won the day before so he was in an exceptionally good mood.

He's off to see his team play again in late November, and there is no way I'm booking FR even if that means the difference between me being able to go with him or not (I don't care for the football but would be nice to be able to do some early Christmas shopping and to go to the Australia shop in London to stock up on all the things I miss from home).
