I've seen speculation on other websites that MCI will eventually go away as a hub as well as Midwest(being folded into Frontier) and Denver and Milwaukee be the two Frontier hubs.

I used to fly YX weekly to LGA when they had signature service, but since they dropped to all saver seat service, I've switched to using DL's service on the CRJ900 w/ a first class cabin. The flight itself isn't so long that it makes that much of a difference, but when you add in an hour or more taxi times at LGA with inclement weather, heavy traffic, etc., the FC cabin makes a big difference. As much as I've missed the old YX, I've been hoping for awhile now they'd pull out of the MCI-LGA market in hopes DL would increase frequency by a couple flights a day. A friend uses YX on almost a weekly basis because it's the government contract carrier for the MCI-LGA route says the loads are often 100%. I would hope YX is making money on it, but maybe they're discounting the fares to a point where the yields just aren't there. While this has been discussed at length in other threads, I think we'll be seeing Midwest do some expansion in MCI. As I'm sure you're aware, Midwest just announced the restoration of MCI-RSW so Republic still has an overall interest in MCI. Bryan Bedford has mentioned restoring routes and frequencies out of MCI, but no one knows at this point how widespread that may be. Midwest and Frontier both have pretty strong brand awareness in MCI. I Through route additions, fligh coordination, and further expansion of the code share agreement Midwest and Frontier could do some significant fortification in MCI and became a strong #2 behind Southwest. kcflatlander Oct 2, 09, 8:40 am Expansion at MCI actually makes sense, as it's most likely cheaper than Denver, the runway is underused, and there are many gates available, especially in Concourse C. MCI has 90 gates, and YX has 6 gates in Concourse B. |
