Wow, very interesting read...Thank you.
The only thing I find appalling is The Sun's erroneous labeling of downtown Vegas as "Las Vegas' famous strip" in the fifth and final photo.
Speaking of homeless/begging...I've been meaning to ask this for a long time...Several times a year, I walk from my room at Harrah's to the Sands Expo Center...EVERY morning, somewhere between the lovely Casino Royale and The Venetian, there's a guy, wearing a clergyman's collar, holding a basket that suspiciously looks like a church collection plate with a sign attached to it saying something to the degree of "Please help the homeless" with a picture of a young child on it.
My employees and I have drawn the conclusion that this man is not of the church, rather just a creative beggar. He's got to do pretty well--for him to be in the same spot every day...No matter weekend or weekday. And he's always gone by the end of the day when we walk back.

I much prefer the guy on the north end of the Strip that simply holds a sign "I need beer $$$. At least I'm honest." He had been there for at least my last 5 visits.

Odds are these folks will get flushed away by the first big rainstorm, then they'll have to move -- to the tunnels under Grand Central Terminal perhaps. Remake of Beauty and the Beast, anyone?

A few years ago there was a guy in the PDX area who had a sign like that...and he got more money than anyone else begging.
His exact words on the sign were "Why lie? I need a beer."
My best friend and I agreed...if we would have ever saw him, we'd have given him a couple bucks since he was honest.

It was funny 8 years ago. They all have the same sign now.

Yep, that caught on pretty quick. I saw that sign in TPA 10 or more years ago.

The credit hustling thing sounds truly bizarre - I can't imagine myself ever walking away from a slot machine without cashing out. Then again, I can't imagine myself ever playing a slot machine.

Add in video poker machines, electronic blackjack, roulette. I've run across machines with credits left on them before. Not 900+ mind you...

I've come across some leftover credits. The most was one credit in a $25 machine.

I did get $20 that someone had left in a video poker machine once.

Why scrounge for credits up top? Get some old gaming tables and open an underground casino. The gamblers will come. In times of flash flood you could have a floating crap game!

This actually happens more often than you would think. Not just drunks who wander off to the restroom and forget they have money in the machine...more likely, it was someone who may have "hit big" and been paid off by the casino in cash, and in the rush and thrill, forgot they still have credits on the machine. I once sat at a video poker machine that still had the Royal Flush showing...someone obviously got lucky and won $4000 (dollar machine) and took that hand-pay out (you have to pay taxes) and scampered off, forgetting there was still $130 left in the machine.
I considered it my lucky day - played their leftover credits and didn't do badly!
