Asia - How much time in Gyeongju?

I'm only going to be able to spend 7ish days in Korea. I was wondering if it's possible to see Gyeongju on a long layover in Busan (I'd try and push it to a 20 hour layover if possible.)
Or does it warrant more time there? I was going to go to Seoul mostly so I can take some cooking classes there, but am happy to spend more time elsewhere if advised.

I would say two nights. Arrive in the evening before the first and depart AM after the second. One day in the valley where there is lots to see and another climbing the Toham mountain to Bulguksa and Seokguram followed by spa'ing for example at the Kolon hotel.
I don't really think Seoul warrants several days, especially in your case as the areas famous for Korean food are elsewhere in the country.

Is there anywhere else you'd recommend I go?
I was planning on spending most of my time in Seoul, but just because I wanted to take a few classes here: http://hancooking.co.kr (http://hancooking.co.kr/)
I'm interested in anything and everything Korean food-related though.

For tasting Korean food, I think good cities are for example Jeonju, Jinju (please read the trip report by FT'er jpatokal ), Mokpo and Gwangju.
Gyeongju is a really beautiful and serene town but well known in Korea as for having only mediocre dishes.
As for cooking classes, I have no experience but could ask around a bit.

Thanks for the info. I just didn't want to spend my entire week trying to get from one place to another, but after looking at the bus/train time, I guess it's all pretty close.
Thanks for the trip about that trip report, was great! I am adding Jinju to my list.
