Mexico - Travel and Accomodation in Lake Chapala MX

I have been trying to find award availability from Flying Blue (AF/KLM) to Guadalajara but seems there isn't any from now until perhaps after mid Jan. Seems strange. I'm in a city in Canada where NW flies and I believe they have flights to GDL with connections thru Minneapolis. Any suggestions on what else I might try besides calling and being told there isn't any award seats available, will be much appreciated.

Second, we are looking to rent something in Ajijic or similar town along the lake. Looking for something from Dec thru Apr. Does anyone have experience with current rental situation around Lake Chapala?

IIRC there's a thread on Trip Advisor with details of rentals (inc agencies) in Ajijic etc.
Using miles from one airline to get a reward tkt on another airline in the same alliance is often a hassle since there are often restrictions on availability. Since CO is about to leave for *A you are limited to NW, AM and Delta.
