In order to avoid SIN's stratospheric hotel rates, I was thinking of staying in Malacca. Does anyone know of an easy, painless and inexpensive way of getting from Changi (with baggage) to Malacca and back?

But no, there are no easy, painless or inexpensive ways, much less all the three at the same time, of getting to Malacca, which is a good 3-4 hours away by bus. Even commuting from Johor Bahru (http://wikitravel.org/en/Johor_Bahru), which is right across the Causeway, is fairly painful.
