Hi

company I work for only allow Eco fares. Example M fares. But the J fare is cheaper. So I am looking for an elegant way of getting into J.

Example scenario: company book/pay the M ticket. And later I downgrade to V. With the price difference minus fees I would then upgrade to J. And the reminder approx 50-100 Euro would go back to the company, hence I would save money for the company.

Thanks for suggestions

In the past I have always just spoken to the person that approves my travel expenses and laid out the case, showing that it is win-win for company and traveler. In several large companies that has worked. Have you tried that?

I somehow find the idea of refunding the money to the company to be more of a hassle that it is worth. It will probably also raise red flags.

Person approving the expenses will probably ask why you did not book the cheapest Economy fare in the first place...

Wishful thinking that the travel department would be so sensible as you suggest. Unfortunately for me, the company I work for would book LH class B. Even if LX J is cheaper, company travel policy only permit economy. Full stop.

Flying LX would raise many questions. So the argument of saving money is probably the only possibility. But fly J, no way.

If your company is prepared to book B-class on LH, they seem to be willing to pay a premium for flexibility. Do your travel plans often change at the last minute?

A J-Fare on Swiss is very inflexible, and changes could end up costing you a lot of money if you have to pay the fare difference to a higher fare bucket close to the day of travel.

Yep, you are right about the flexibility vs. in-flexibility issue.

But now with the double status points, it is soooo tempting :D

Looks like I will have to settle with double LH B points in stead, or 75% less that LX J would have given.
