SAS EuroBonus - Newbie *A upgrade question

I have a thread going in the UA forum but I think this particular question is more appropriate here. I'm inexperienced with points & upgrading so I'm finding myself confused. I'm planning an SAS flight from IAD to CPH in June of 2010. I'm considering buying an Economy Plus ticket for the sole purpose of upgrading to Business with UA miles. Two questions:

1) What are my chances of actually getting upgraded to Business, given that I will be booking the flight and requesting the upgrade early (~9 months in advance)?
2) How many UA miles are required?

If late June I guess your chances of obtaining the upgrade is close to 100% if booked in Economy Extra. At that time of the year they heavily overbook Economy Class and will upgrade you to free up space in Economy Extra since demand for Economy Extra and Business Class is low and ticket prices in Economy Class relatively high. July is even better.

I have a UA B class ticket on CPH-EWR. Apparently that is Economy. I asked my TA, and they claimed I can't optiontown me to Extra or Business as I can't upgrade on SK with UA ticket. Does anyone know if I can do a) upgrade with points at gate or b) *A upgrade for points?

Shouldnt UA B be SK B on the actual flight as well? Then it is E+.

According to the information I have (could be wrong so please correct!) UA B = SK E. I have tried to verify this with the travel agent (Expedia) and EB member service, but both are worthless in customer service.
