Hiya. Posted a few replies this morning, but wanted to ask a few questions too.
After 12 years of saving, I've cashed in all my miles for a business class trip GLA - LHR - BKK - SYD with BD/TG for my honeymoon ! :)

I wondered what lounge access (and where) I would be entitled to (my actual card is just regular blue), what my luggage allowance is, and if anyone has flown Business on Thai and what they thought. If I mention it's my honeymoon often enough, is there any chance of First ? Also, my fiance is worrying that after the grief of the ICC (see other thread) we're not actually in Business. The fare basis is IBP00BD, I'm assuming the "I" at the start is Business ?

Many thanks in advance.

Congrats (probably :P) on your upcoming nuptuals!

I does indeed mean business, you can check all this (if you didn't already know) on www.checkmytrip.com and ensure that everything is ticketed/fine (i.e. there is a number starting with 236 on checkmytrip) using the reference BMI ngave you. This will also say your baggage allowance on the ticket - if its too low (the ICC sometimes makes mistakes) then you might want to ask for advice here as to what to do.

Considering the amount of saving you've done if I were you I would also consider looking on seatguru/seatmap for your ideal seats - checkmytrip will tell you the aircraft your flying on, and choosing your ideal seats and booking them in advance by calling Thai directly with your reference number, also on checkmytrip.com.

At GLA, as long as you're flying in C, you will only have the bmi lounge to choose from. Unfortunately I don't know T3 for a recommendation as to which lounge you'd need. Obviously in BKK you go to the thai business lounge, SYD there are some good threads in the star alliance forum;

I would have thought your chance of F was slim to none (a lot of people get married :P) but others might have a view on this... If you wanted F paying is the only way to gaurentee. You could always try and get a note put in your reservation....

Thanks LV. Just checked checkmytrip and we are indead Business Class ! And we have 30kg of luggage. I was just a little paranoid about lounge access, beause we are on a redemption flight, you know ? So that makes no difference then, we can use the lounges ? Just BD/TG, or any *A ? In sydney for example.
Also had already been on seatguru, but we can't check in on line till 24hrs before, can we pick our seat before then ? My fiance has to speak to Thai anyway, to book a gluten free meal, perhaps she can mention seat numbers then.
Didn't think there was much chance of 1st, but you never know !

Thank you !

You should have access to any Star Alliance Business Class lounge, both those operated/branded by the alliance itself (e.g. LHR Star Lounge) and Business Class lounges operated by any star alliance member. The fact you are on a redemption ticket is not relevant.

Most airlines will let you choose your seat in advance if travelling in the higher classes - so yes, when you ring Thai you sould make that choice.

BMI's flights as well you can select your seat in advance when travelling in a good class - though to be fair for the BMI (I assume GLA-LHR is bmi) portions won't make any difference at all - you should be able to do that via 'manage my booking' on the bmi website?

As BHDBOY says, doesn't matter about the redemptions - its still business class, as such you can choose any *A business lounge in the airports you are going from - as with Sydney though, there tend to be a few lounges to choose from and one tends to be a little better than the others, so its best to read about them in advance. Clearly in BKK the obvious choice is Thai as that is their home base, ergo their best lounge.

The full policy is here;
http://www.staralliance.com/en/benefits/lounges/lounge-access-policy/

- International Business Class Customers: Customers have access to any Star Alliance member carriers' owned Business Class lounges.
- Customer must present a boarding card for the same day travel in international Business Class on a Star Alliance flight
- Customer must be departing from the local airport in International Business Class
- Customer is not entitled to any guests

TMy fiance has to speak to Thai anyway, to book a gluten free meal
I think special meals will cancel out any possibility of an upgrade.
