Air France Frequence Plus - J Award with Continental miles on AF Affaires IAH - CDG : Any upgrade possible?

OK.. i did a search and couldn't find anything here or in the Continental forum.

I have a J Reward next week that's IAH-CDG then back from LHR-IAH all confirmed in J. I would love to work the Affaires-Premiere upgrade but am not sure if it's even possible? And I rarely fly AF.

Thoughts:
1. Open to paying cash for the upgrade but how would they price it other than the delta between paid J and paid F
2. OnePass miles? (doubt this would work)
3. Transfer Amex MR points to FlyingBlue and then use that to upgrade the ticket. However it appears they want something like 75K / leg to upgrade which seems outrageous to me. Would this even work since it was originally booked thru CO?

And is it even worth the different experience in the AF 777 J vs F?

Sorry, no upgrade possible from J to F with an award ticket. If you're lucky and J-class full, you may be bumped to F (it happened to me once with a J award ticket between NOU & NRT:)). But do not count too much on this...

Flying IAH/CDG in July there was absolutely no one in F and they essentially flew the plane as a two cabin aircraft. I don't know if they staffed for three cabins thus having a few more FAs than needed, but it's the most attentive service I've ever had in Affaires. That said, I always think AF is a great choice for J. I've been told several times that they will almost never move passengers up to F even in an irrops situation. I don't know what they would do if Affaires was overbooked.

Then they would move AF staff/friends from Y to F.
IAH is not a popular destination for AF staff/friends, but NYC, LAX...

Not to insist, but don't expect any upgrades on an award ticket.

You can't pay cash for the difference ...

And you can't use other airline miles to upgrade the day of ... all dependant on class of service purchased anyway, so it won't work on the mileage award.
