Here (in Hebrew) (http://www.calcalist.co.il/local/articles/0,7340,L-3361435,00.html)
It says at the bottom there is a reserved space next to Terminal 3 for a hotel and while Tel Aviv is quite close, they might decide to build one for air crews and people who want to sleep next to the airport for an early flight.

A hotel at TLV would be awesome! I'm tired of arriving on a 1am flight and shlepping all my crap into the city before resting.

Tbh, I've never noticed the lack of a hotel at TLV before, however, now that you mention it, it does seem like a good idea to have one.
Having said that, since there isn't much connecting traffic, there isn't as much of a need.

It isn't just the connecting traffic. There are so many early morning or late night flights on the European carriers that you can't always get there so easily from cities like Haifa, Beersheba and Ashkelon. Additionally, there are sometimes misconnections like when someone comes from Eilat etc. as well as the numerous airline crews that come to Israel. I think that the airport hotel would do fine and I hope that it will be a Starwood property

So it's to be a four-star hotel, but is the hotel going to be landside technically?
You can always stay at the Avia hotel in Yahud :-)
Or the new Melonit in Asaf Arofe.
Or you can find a Zimer in one of the Moshavim around BGN.

It would have to be landside as the connecting traffic is non-existent.

There are facilities for connections at TLV and there are a few that do it but far from enough to justify an airside hotel. Also, even with enough traffic, I doubt security will ever allow and airside hotel.
as well as the numerous airline crews that come to Israel.
Most European crews do a quick turn-around. Those that keep their crews overnight I doubt will beable to house them at the airport. Those crews want to be in the City especially when they are down for over 24 hrs.
I just dont see such a Hotel being a Profitable 1.

Somebody recently told me that one of the reasons ELAL launched the Luton flights, was in order to enable connections to HKG, BKK, BOM, BJS (although on the return only BKK is a suitable connection.
On the ELAL website these routes are offered from London (of course when trying to book them, it dosen't work).
Anybody know if it had any success at all?

The reason was reducing the costs over LHR, and the only place they could have more flights to since no slots were available in LHR.

You're right, I misworded my post, what I meant was that that was something which they took into account, (especially with the timing of the flight)
