We decided to temporarily close our service at this moment to avoid any possible violation of priceline's ToC through our current algorithm. However as I have mentioned earlier in another thread, we 're going to provide a better service which is 100% without any violation and will make Betterbidding and Biddingfortravel obsolete in the future.

I'll update this when our new service is ready.

I decided to offer free priceline bidding help for all users in this forum. Hope you will like it.

[Rules]

1. Reply in this thread, your requested hotel city, zone, star, checkin, checkout date and how many rooms you want. One zone one star per request. I 'm offerring three free requests per user for now. The format of your reply needs to be:

City:
Zone Number: (If there's any zone, you can assume zone 1, same on bestbidding.co.cc)
Star:
Checkin:
Checkout:
Room:

2. I 'll try to give you the result ASAP and please bid ASAP on priceline if you think this price is reasonable. And please report your bid and which hotel you got here in this thread. Thank you.

Hope you will like my service!

Thanks for your generous offer. I don't need help right now and am fairly proficient with PL bidding anyway. But I do appreciate your generosity.

And though I know it is a "secret" I am amazed at how you come up with the bid amounts for people. Keep up the good work.

And a note to others: based on reading his help to others on another forum, I think giving him the zone NUMBER and not the name of the zone is preferred, but correct me if I am wrong.

Wow, this thread has the potential to become very long very fast, if everyone is posting their requests, receiving replies, and posting results to it. It will become like an entire betterbidding.com in a single thread. Yikes!

Didn't coolwulf say in a previous thread that they have inside information to the priceline rates? If so, it seems that posting bidding info here could open up FT to litigation from PL.

No wonder why you registered today and this is your first post ...

I think one of the primary issue of this post is we suggest people to go directly to priceline instead of thru other people's link. Guess this touched some people's cheese ...
It is alslo one of the main reasons why FW removed our thread over there cause they provide fatcash program for priceline...

coolwulf,

You've posted to multiple threads that people shouldn't bid through affiliate links because doing so inflates the minimum accepted price.

That contradicts my longheld understanding, which is that bidding through affiliate links has NO impact on price.

For discussion's sake let's say I want a 4* hotel in Downtown Phoenix zone on Oct 3. I ask you to find the low price for me. You tell me $55.

Are you saying that if I bid $55 directly through Priceline without going through any affiliate link my bid will be accepted, but if I bid the same $55 through BFT, BB, FW, or any other affiliate link my bid will be rejected?

We only suggest people to bid directly through priceline intead of affiliated link since it might increase the minimum bid. And we did see this happen before...

There are a couple other FT threads about your service, coolwulf.

In one of those threads you posted on September 4 in bold:

Do not go through other website links to priceline! Those links are affiliated with priceline and raise your winning bid price!

I don't see the word "might" there.

It's post #17 in the "Priceline Bidding Help--Now for a Fee" thread.

2. I did not mention anything about anyone's links, nor did anyone in this thread before me, so I fail to see why you throw that issue in my face and accuse my "cheese" of being touched. Seems like the beginning of a straw-man argument, to me.

3. I notice in your replies to the messages after mine that your initial singular has now become plural "we only suggest" etc. You now have helpers? Employees?

4. I see that someone asked for your help at 10:30 last night and now, 12 hr later, there is still no reply, so I wonder what you really mean in RULE #2 by "please bid ASAP" if your assistance is merely at your own convenience.

Diplomatico, I for one thought Colfax's questions were reasonable and polite.

As far as posts being "well thought out for every potential meaning that could be construed", all I can say is that if you're offering advice to people on how they should spend their money, then yes, you DO have a responsibility to be clear, unambiguous, and definite in your statements. Even more so if you're advocating against people using other services (and their links) that have provided significant benefit to the advisee in the past.

If someone is asking what price to name on priceline for two rooms for a 5 nite stay in Honolulu, that adds up to big bucks pretty quickly. The advice has to be explicit & swift, and action needs to be taken immediately. Stale priceline advice helps nobody, and can truly HURT the advisee.

Criticism of other sites where help has been responsible, accurate, and free for a long while, really does need to come with some EVIDENCE that there is a hidden cost. What Colfax is asking is completely reasonable, in my opinion.

Yeah, thank you for the warm welcome too. My first post was not aimed at discrediting anyone. Then the OP started attacking me, and now that I dared to make a polite disagreement with your post, you are attacking me too. What a nice bunch.

I can just imagine how much traffic coolwulf's site is going to garner, when they immediately chastise new users. I bet if I was posting on their site, I'd be banned and my posts deleted by now.

Let's stick to price requests in this thread as requested by OP who is offering to provide valuable information.
All other questions can be addressed in a separate thread.

I also hope people who plans to bid on PL in the near future can try OP's price suggestion first through a referring link and, if not successful, directly to see if we indeed have a difference there.

I had the same thought, and intend to bid the way you've suggested. Since using the OP's bidding suggestions (whether for free or $1.95) doesn't involve any revenue generated from affiliate links, then he/she has nothing to lose by your placing your bid through BetterBidding's link, for example. In my book, that's a win/win for everyone. The OP gets $1.95, and BetterBidding gets their affiliate revenue (along with your posting your winning info to add to their database). Works for me!

Respectfully, jabez, I have no personal issues with coolwulf. He seems like a decent fellow and he’s offering a unique service that many obviously find useful.

I’m only challenging coolfwulf’s “facts”, not his opinions or his right to earn a living.

I hope you agree there’s a difference between these two statements:

1) “United’s a better airline than Delta.”
2) “Last week 20 people caught herpes from sitting on Delta’s filthy seats”.

The first is opinion. The second is presented as fact, and if untrue it should be challenged.

To my mind, coolwulf’s statements that using affiliate links raises the price, or even “might” raise the price, is like the herpes statement. If untrue the statement can do damage and it deserves to be challenged directly.

Bidding through affiliate links either raises the price or it doesn’t. There’s no middle ground. It’s important to establish what the truth is because people won’t use affiliate links if they think it increases the price, even by a penny.

I respect your wish to reserve this thread for its original purpose---asking and receiving bottom dollar bid amounts from coolwulf, with no side talk. If I have further comment I’ll post to the other thread.

Hmm. Now you are making factual statements that are also unproven.

There is no reason why bidding through affiliate links might raise the price of a winning bid. Just like changing some bidding parameters might change the price (number of nights for example has been shown on other sites to be a factor in whether a bid is won or not, but is not consistent in every zone of every city).

Do I believe using affiliate links might raise the price? I don't know. But it could, sure. It might be one factor. Why not bid yourself through an affiliate link and when rejected try again direct. Or use coolwuff's price point suggestion and do the same. You can become the prover of "no middle ground." :D

Since I had a lot of free rebid zones available, I decided to start at $120 and work my way up. Below is my bid history;

1. $120 - rejected
2. $122 - rejected with counteroffer to add $22
3. $124 - rejected with counteroffer to add $22
4. $125 - rejected with counteroffer to add $22
5. $126 - accepted

All bids were placed through an affiliate link to Priceline.

As I posted earlier, it's nice to be able to take advantage of your service (even when paying $1.95 vs your current free offer to FTers) while giving revenue to bidding sites like BetterBidding at the same time. Not to mention adding the winning bid information to their data base for others to benefit from.

Hmm. Now you are making factual statements that are also unproven.

Good point, fti.

Later this weekend I'm going to propose a little experiment that coolwulf and I can perform together, if he agrees. Hopefully it will settle the question whether bidding through affiliate links raises the minimum strike price or not.

I'll post my experiment idea to the other FT thread though, not here, since a moderator asked that this thread be reserved for bid requests and replies.

Colfax

Hmmm.

BEAV's post wasn't up yet when I was composing my own, about my proposed "experiment". BEAV's bidding exerience (accepted at $126 through an affiliate link after coolwulf suggested a minimum bid of $127) sort of mimics what I was proposing to do.

Since the momentum is going now I'll just out with it here.

==============

coolwulf,

I need one 3* room on Sunday, Sept 20 in Priceline's Berkeley-Emeryville zone, which is Zone 1.

Here's the experiment I propose:

You tell me the low price. I'll make three bids then:

#1) First I'll bid $1 less than the price you say, going direct to Priceline, not using any affiliate link. That bid should be rejected but placing it will establish that you've truly given me the lowest possible price.

#2) Then I'll bid the price you tell me, but I'll do so through an affiliate link.

#3) If #2 is rejected I'll bid the identical amount again, but this time going direct to Priceline, not using any affiliate link.

If using affiliate links raises the strike price then Bid #2 should be rejected and Bid #3 accepted.

If using affiliate links has no effect on strike price then Bid #2 should be accepted.

If you can do your research tonight and post the price by 8pm Pacific Time tonight I'll bid then. If that's not possible we can shoot for 11am Pacific Time tomorrow morning. I want to bid as close to the time you do your research as possible, to reduce the possibility of inventory changes affecting the result.

edit to add: If the strike price you give me is more than $75 then I'm over budget and will have to propose a different zone.

I would like to help you with your experiment. However I need to state that it's also possible priceline has been changing their strategy through time. We did get reports about price raise with going through affiliated links. (And we admit these are possible false alarm...) If priceline changed this behavior right now and we found out it's the same minimum bidding thru both direct link and affiliated link, it won't guarantee that priceline won't change again in the future.

Just like the increased fees when going through FW's link when using Hotels.com ... (Check according thread at FW), there 's always things not expected ....

It's up to you if you want to play along or not, coolwulf.

Things are changing all the time and I'm willing to admit the possibility that I'm wrong. Just because bidding through affiliates hasn't increased the cost in the past doesn't mean it's the same situation now.

I'm not invested in being right. If bidding through affiliate links raises the price that's something I, and others, want to know. I'll share my bidding results honestly, whatever they are.

I'd think you should be interested in the outcome of this too, coolwulf, so that your website will have accurate information.

You were spot on with the price, coolwulf, to the dollar. I won the Courtyard Emeryville for $46. This will work out very well for me and thanks for the assist.

$45 for 3* was rejected. I bid direct through Priceline, not using any affiliate link.

$46 for 3* was accepted. I placed that bid through an affiliate link.

To me this says the low price is identically the same, whether you bid through an affiliate link or not. BEAV's bidding experience suggests the same. (Actually BEAV bid through an affiliate link and got his hotel for $1 less than the price you gave.)

I'm not gloating. I really wanted to know how this would turn out and I wasn't certain what the outcome would be. Thanks for being a good sport, coolwulf, and playing along.

I hope you'll quit posting that bidding through affiliate links raises the price though because unless you have some evidence to the contrary that doesn't appear to be true.

No. It's not that simple to get a conclusion :)

Your experience might not fit for others...And we are also considerring whether there's any difference if going thru different affiliated links. There are why we 're still waiting for more cases to come in to support this claim. And also we 're studying why we got those contrary reports before if they' re false alarms.

However I totally agree if affiliated links won't increase any bidding price or fees, I would like to claim it...

(One thing I really don't like is some mod at BFT like banning people if they don't go through their website's affiliated links... So if it appears true it's the same bidding price I 'll strongly suggest people to go through cashback website's link intead of BFT or another...)

And also, if we found out affliated link won't affect the bid, we would like to use this system to furthur support our service in the future... (Which means less fee or even free (possible? we don't know yet) for our service... )

Having read your informative posts for several years on the subject of Priceline bidding I feel sure that you wouldn't really have bid on Priceline on 9/18 for lodging some 50 days out (11/08) getting the Lafayette with a $126 bid. Was the check-in date actually 10/8/? I know I am missing something but it's past midnight here.

Nov 8 is the correct date. We leave the following day on vacation to Europe and decided to start our holiday at a hotel of this calibur vs something more "run of the mill" near the airport.

As info, this hotel has once again began selling rooms via Priceline. I have been bidding this date for a few weeks now without success (not bidding high enough). So I thought I'd give coolwulf'sservice a try.

Thank you very much -- this saves me from increasing my bid and then adding another zone or lower star level and thereby overpaying. I hope just there's a room for me somewhere...

I feel very sorry to tell you:

Maybe you can try a different zone or maybe not going through priceline. Sometime priceline won't result in the best deal ...

I read your posts in amazement, actually. You are providing a great service to people, especially to those who are a bit fearful of Priceline, don't know or want to learn about free rebidding, etc.

It was late for me last night, too, when I replied to your post. After coffee this morning, and rereading your post, may I ask why you think a bid 50 days in advance is so odd?

If you, or anyone, for that matter, is questioning the authenticity of my bid, please feel free to send me a PM. I would be happy to set up an arrangement where I send you a copy of my Priceline receipt.

I am not questioning you in any way. I thought I was complementing you for all of the sound advice you have offered over the years re Priceline bidding. I frankly thought the date was incorrect - nothing more. I would regret it enormously if anyone reading my post thought otherwise. I also feel that Coolwulf's price quotes are remarkable. A $ here or there is inconsequential IMO. When I am bidding at the $60 level or higher I usually jump my bids by at least $5 each bid anyway - so I could care less if he is a dollar or so off.

That's really great, it's a fascinating service you are offering. Can you further explain the guarantee you provide? Is this a financial guarantee, such as "double the difference" or "we'll buy it for you if the price doesn't work"? For such a guarantee, I think many people would be willing to pay your $2 service fee. What documentation must a user supply to take advantage of the guarantee?

Flying Machine,

It will be interesting to get coolwulf's "take" on this. Perhaps we'll never know the true reason why your bid of $69 was not accepted. However I can't help but wonder if the reason is because coolwulf suggested $69 yesterday, but you didn't bid until today??? I know pricing and inventory can change all the time, so could that be the reason for your striking out?

I don't recall Priceline ever offering a "suggested" bid amount (aside from their counteroffers). But they usually always reference the supposed retail price which should not be misunderstood as a recommended bid price. In other words, what would be the point of bidding the amount as the retail price. In your sister's situation, do you think $159 was Priceline's definition of the retail price for the star level and zone she was bidding? I hope she follows your advice in the future and lets you do her bidding!

FWIW, yesterday I paid $1.95 for a suggested bid price. The "turnaround" time from submitting a request to receiving an answer in email was 12 hours. I'm not making any kind of judgement call, but rather just stating the wait period I experienced. I have no idea if coolwulf has a staff, does it himself, or what time zone he operates from. I will say, however, I was satisfied with my $1.95 experience. The star level and zone I was requesting a bid quote was sold out for my travel dates, although coolwulf and/or his staff went the extra mile by providing a suggested bid price in the next lower category.

The star level and zone I was requesting a bid quote was sold out for my travel dates, although coolwulf and/or his staff went the extra mile by providing a suggested bid price in the next lower category.

Oh... I am a paid customer as well.... and been very happy with my experiences overall. Responses within an hour... and major savings.

I guess my concern is when I see help being given here for free when "paying customers" are not getting responses to their requests. I understand the need to cultivate new customers.... but I would work hard first to keep the customers I already have. :)

Have you checked your email yet? I sent you the email around noon... ( I hope I did :) )

I see on BFT that on August 27 a member posted a successful bid for a 4* hotel, San Francisco, check-in date August 28 (& 29). He received the 4* USE Grand Hyatt Union Square for a final bid of $71 per night. Does this simply reflect the usual rise in rates in San Francisco in the Fall or is this price difference the reason you have chosen to delay your buy? Maybe I am comparing two different zones -- I know little about San Francisco. Very curious. Thanks.

I decided to delay my booking because of the normal rate which priceline offers for the Grand Hyatt, 131$ a night which can be booked directly, for a succesful bid i would have paid 126$ a night as coolwulf suggested.

At BB poeple are paying 65$ to 84$ for a succesful bid for this hotel.

I also have a backup reservation for another hotel, which can be cancelled any time. Therefore no need to rush in bidding.

Royalpool, I think you've made the right decision to wait awhile as opposed to buying now. With a rack rate of $131, it doesn't make much sense to pay $126 via Priceline's "name your own price" method. And as additional info, the rack rate of $131 can also be found directly at Hyatt.com. For a 7 night stay, it would pay to book directly with the hotel (for the same price) as it would to book through Priceline's retail channel. If you joined Hyatt's frequent guest program, you would earn some nice points on a 7 night stay. Lastly, booking direct with the hotel would give you some greater leverage with regard to room type, etc. That is only advice if you had to book rack rate. But as you indicated, I think you can do better by waiting in this instance. Good luck to you!

As info, I was assigned to the Lafayette Park Hotel, which I was expecting.

Thanks for your time & help, coolwulf.

I think you bid way too early. The Renaissance Club Sport 4* typically goes for a bid of $70 or so on weekend nights when they're not sold out.

I sure was happy to see your suggested price. I had been monitoring the price at other sites but it was hard to guess what kind of bid would be necessary for peak season. I had a $20 priceline coupon so I bid $69 plus the twenty and it was rejected. I would definitely prioritize rental car over airline, if only for the selfish reason of having a tricky upcoming 10-day rental at RSW that I would love help with. Here are the details in case you need a test case as the date approaches :)

I sure was happy to see your suggested price. I had been monitoring the price at other sites but it was hard to guess what kind of bid would be necessary for peak season. I had a $20 priceline coupon so I bid $69 plus the twenty and it was rejected. Maybe there is different levels when you are using a coupon....Rebid $70 plus the $20 coupon and was accepted at the Marriott Waikola Beach Resort. We'll be enjoying Valentine's Day in a very romantic place next year!:D

Thanks again for your help!

Thank you for your feedback. We did monitor that when you use coupon on priceline, the winning bid varies a little bit. Enjoy your trip.

I am a little concerned about this language appearing on the Priceline name your own price page:

I am not interested in Gulf Shores (which seems to be Zone 1). Am I right to be concerned?

No need for concern. You won't end up in Gulf Shores itself unless you select that zone. I think message you got (and there are others around the country) is more to help those that may not be familiar with the general area to relate where they're going to a "big name" city/town.

For example, if you were to search for Brighton, Massachusetts, you get the message "Please note: Brighton, Massachusetts is located within the Boston, MA region.", but you won't be in downtown Boston unless you select a downtown zone.

Thanks for the speedy reply Coolwulf, and to lo2e for the reassurance.

Allow me to expose my colossal ignorance if you will. While I have enjoyed FT for several years, I am mostly an armchair traveller. I am admittedly inexperienced when it comes to Priceline and related services, having usually booked vacation condos either directly with the owners or through management companies.

I have three questions before I take the leap, and then must explain what I have done to my lovely wife.

1) In looking at the hotel portion of Priceline, I see exactly one (1) three star property in the region I mentioned, namely the Perdido Beach Resort. I have also looked at maps of the area and see no other hotels that I believe would be comparable. The ones that come close are listed by Priceline with fewer stars. Is it possible that there is another three star lurking offstage that I could get stuck with? Having a beachfront property is really a dealbreaker.

2) Travelling with the wife and three small daughters, could I get stuck with a room that won't handle us all? I can manage with two beds and a rollaway or something similar. Am I mistaken to think I can pull this off through Priceline?

and finally,

3) The price you suggested was $230.00. Was that for a night, or the entire stay? Priceline seems to be quoting room rates of $150.00 or so, which makes $230.00 either a steal or way too high.

Thanks again for the help.

Thanks again for the help.

1. The property priceline listed doesn't agree with their lists of hotels in their wholesale department. So it's quite possible there are other hidden 3 star hotels out there.

2. Priceline only gaurantee 2 adults per room. Capacity of a room beyond that would depend on the hotel. So there is a risk to use priceline if you want to have several people in one room...

3. I feel like the price is also suspicous but that's the price we checked with them. So if this price is even much higher than prices listed on other website, just don't go thru priceline...

Update:

I checked your request again and found out the 3 star hotels are sold out! So that's probably why priceline showed us a strange number earlier!

I think you bid way too early. The Renaissance Club Sport 4* typically goes for a bid of $70 or so on weekend nights when they're not sold out.

In March of this year, Priceline downgraded the Renaissance Club Sport from 4* to 3.5*. When that happened, Priceline no longer offered 4 star bidding in the zone, an indication the Lafayette Park Hotel was not a participant in "name your own price" at that time. Then about a month ago, I noticed 4* bidding was again available. I assumed the Renaissance had been upgraded back to 4*, however it remains at 3.5*, which was an indication the Lafayette Park Hotel had joined Priceline.

As info, the Renaissance remains a 4 star hotel on the list at BiddingForTravel because nobody has updated the list since the hotel was downgraded to 3.5 in March.

Up-to-date hotel lists in this zone are available at BetterBidding.com

And lastly, to check the current star rating of any hotel, you can find that by searching through Priceline vacation packages.

Thanks for the info. This is good news for people who want only the Lafayette Park Hotel, but very bad news for people wanting only the Renaissance Club Sport and not the Marriott for the $70 bid. Another hot PL deal bites the dust.

Not only are the Renaissance & Marriott both 3.5 stars, but also the Crowne Plaza in Concord. No way will I bid 3.5 in this zone as long as Renaissance remains common-rated with Crowne Plaza.

Granted the Lafayette Park commands a higher rate than Renaissance did, at least you know you're getting a strong 4-star property.

Does this mean your website is staffed/monitored 24 hours a day, including weekends? If not, are there better times of the day, or days of the week one can expect 30 minute turnarounds? A little clarification may help with regard to client expectations (as in spainflyer's experience) since you are getting bid requests at all hours from across the globe.

BEAV why do you have such a hard tone against coolwulf.. I have read several of your posts and you are always down on the guy for one reason or another. Its a buck ninty five a price of a grande at strabucks. I received some good advice for free here and he even sent me a PM. I just dont understand your agenda. I am up for the help either free or for a fee.. The service is good if priceline bidding is your thing. Please be constructive with your commentary..

The only issue I had (past tense) with coolwulf was his claim that bidding through affilliate links required a higher bid price. Frankly, I like paying him $1.95 for the "strike price" as it saves me a lot of time trying to figure it out on my own. But I'm also a strong supporter of BetterBidding.com and want to be able to bid through their affiliate link as well as post my winning bid over there. Posting that data on BB will be seen by far more people than it will here. A big advantage to the Internet community. Coolwulf rose to the occasion and backed away from his earlier claim, and I acknowledge him for that.

You may have missed one of my posts in this thread where I paid him the $1.95 (even though I had one freebie left). I posted my bid experience as well as complimenting him that I was satisfied with his product. As info, the turnaround time on my paid bid was 12 hours.

So after my 12 hour and spainflyer's 5 hour experiences, all I'm looking for from coolwulf is a little clarification if everyone can expect a 30 min (give or take) experience 24 hours a day.

Apologies in advance if the answer to my question is already somewhere in this or another thread, but my quick search hasn't turned up anything. Here's the question:

Is there some way to determine how far in advance one should place a PL bid to optimize price? I understand that there are lots of variables, but I was curious about people making requests here months in advance.

Many thanks.

Sorry for my lale reply for your case. I have sent you an email explaining why this request was delayed and also the result for your request. Thank you for using our service.

And I changed my claim on the website.... We can only guarantee in 50% case, we 'll give you reply in 30 minutes. I sincerely sorry for any inconvinience of our service. We 're still trying to improve at this moment.

Coolwulf did get back to me with a figure, I bid and got the hotel. He explained that the delay was due to the fact that I put in the date in the worldwide system (day, month, year) and not in the US system (month, day, year). If that was explained on the web site, I missed it, but it is a good point to keep in mind when using Coolwulf's help. I'll use this service again, and try to get the date right! ^

Thank you for your response.
Does this mean if we try to book, say 3 or 6 months ago, for these same dates, we would be able to book these rooms?

In normal Priceline bidding, is there anyway we can tell if the bid rejection is caused by no room available, regardless of the price we bid?

This would be a teachable moment for us. Thank you.

It does depend on the availablity of rooms in certain areas. I 'm sure if you book 3 month earlier, you are able to book these rooms, however the price won't be low either.

Actually I just checked there might be rooms available now with a little high price for 3 star.

Thank you. This $308 way much too high for us. I have cancellable advance reservation at Best Western Seaport NYC downtown zone 4, 2* for $159, same dates. I do not really care which zone inside Manhattan. Since I am not familiar with NYC, so I do not know what zone to select. Can you change to zone 9 - Midtown East where I might get a better chance to get a reasonable price room, or not?

When I try to use Bestbidding, am I suppose to pay? How? Do I suppose to click the credit card link? I do not mind paying reasonable amount, if I can get a room.

However, after bidding on priceline for the last 6 weeks for 4 different cities vacation from 10/22/09 to 11/7/09, same zones and same prices (without over bid the price listed in travelocity, Bing or Yahoo travel sites), all based on betterbidding & biddingfortravel, without not even one bid accepted. My guess is Priceline just do not have the rooms or hotels do not give priceline any deals. Is that why priceline become pushing those over-inflated retail prices. I just probably going to give up. Or, am I all wet?

(No. I can't tell you exactly which hotel you will get, but maybe in the future I can tell you the chances of which hotel you might get and that's another project we're working on...)

Like most people bidding on Priceline, our biggest concerns are:

1. there is a dog with over-rated star rating, or one particular hotel way-out distance in the normal zone area, but same star rating.
For example, Hotwire Hartford Windsor Airport in Connecticut, the 3* rated hotels has a dog - Holiday Inn Express East Windsor. The Tripadvisor has numerous bad reports indicating this franchise is just plain lousy.

2. outside area, long distance from most same zone hotal, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Best Western Hotel Tria is a over rated 3 star hotel and way out from center of Cambridge and even further outside of Boston Metro; difficult to get around by subway. So that would not be a good choice in this zone for Boston travelers, distance wise, may be except for people going to Harvard.
In Boston Airport - we have Four Points Logan International Airport, 3*, but actually in Revere, MA. away opposite direction from Boston Logan airport to Boston Metro. So, I would avoid this in the Boston Logan Airport zone for Logan Airport travelers, but may be except people going to Revere.

3. Particularly bad areas with safety concerns, for example, Washington DC, North West suburb from the capital, and no subway too. Just plain too dangerous to stay.

As a frequency traveler, I have not been able to use priceline much. Hope you can provide a better services for us to use priceline. Thank you.

Hi young707,

I used bestbidding pay site and it's very user friendly. Just want to point out the rules that coolwulf posted on page 1 as none of us want him/her to run away because we're not following the guidelines.

Let's not abuse coolwulf's generosity - I think it is time you use the bestbidding.com site and pay their nominal fee.

Like most people bidding on Priceline, our biggest concerns are:

1. there is a dog with over-rated star rating or one particular hotel way-out distance in the normal zone area with rest of hotel, but same star rating.
For example, Hotwire Hartford Windsor Airport in Connecticut, the 3* rated hotels has a dog - Holiday Inn Express East Windsor. The Tripadvisor has numerous bad reports indicating this franchise is a dog.

I discount many, many Trip Advisor reviews. Be sure they are not from one-post wonders. So many false reviews on that site (from hotel insiders, competitors, etc). Most people are clueless about this but it is rampant. Trust me. I use TA a lot (am a destination expert for AK). You need to do your own homework and not request a bid for this zone and star level if you want to avoid this hotel.

2. outside distance zone, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Best Western Hotel Tria is over rated 3 star and way out from Boston Metro, difficult to get around by subway. So that would not be a good choice in this zone, distance wise.

Same here - if you don't want the chance to get that hotel, you need to not bid that star level or lower (could be upgraded) and zone so you can avoid the chances of getting that hotel.

In Boston Airport - we have Four Points Logan International Airport, 3*, but actually in Revere, MA. going from opposite direction from Boston Logan airport to Boston Metro. So, I would avoid this in the Boston Logan Airport zone.

No way to really avoid that hotel except as noted above in requesting your bidding.

3. Particularly bad areas with safety concerns, for example, Washington DC, North West suburb from the capital, and no subway too.

As a frequency traveler, I have not been able to use priceline much at all. Hope you can provide a better services for us. Thank you.

I think your expectations are unrealistic. Coolwulf can't provide a "better" service, just like s/he can't change the zones that priceline uses or which hotel you might get, etc. All they can do is give us the lowest bid amount that will be accepted for any city/zone/star level we request. You (or any of us) need to avoid requesting bids in the zones and for the quality levels that have questionable hotels in your mind. It sounds like you have done some homework in this regard so it makes it easier. Just don't request those zones and star levels that have questionable hotels and/or have hotels in the correct zone but are more distant from your preferred location within that zone.

John

It was just a friend suggestting me to private message this thread's link to users at biddingfortravel so I could help more people and let them know our service. And I did that and you got my messages. If that counts as spam, I don't know how to call numerous emails I got from priceline.com ...

I'm not a mod at biddingfortravel, I just don't appreciate you trying to redirect me to your service. As far as I can tell you did this due to my recent posting over there about my experience with getting a Priceline hotel at LAX.

Also, I don't have a problem with clicking through their Amazing-Bargins link, i'd rather do that than utilize the service of someone who will resort to such poaching.

Let me try to explain why our service is better than websites like biddingfortravel

1) Their posts are quite limited. You can only find useful information on major cities. And their information is hard to say 'up to date'.
2) Their dates are not flexible. Cause we all know hotel bidding changes a lot with different dates, whether it's weekend or not.
3) And it is always hard to find spot-on price when just using other people's bidding price. Even the spot-on price is only 2 or 3 dollars lower than your bidding price, but why don't you want to save this 2 or 3 dollars (espeically for several days of staying)?
4) It takes tons of time to research in these websites. Why don't you let the research be our job and you can save this time for something else?

I think the main concern people might have is that the information you are using to provide these answers is something that is supposed to be confidential. Can you confirm that the information you are getting to provide these answers is not from a confidential or proprietary source?
