the place is a DUMP and basically is Time-share , which if you havent done it in a yrs time can net you $160 cash for a 90 min talk

Did it twice and both times the place looked like a ghost town and the owners of the hotel part went Belly-up and the Time share folks arent much better

that said if a person is doing a MR and needs a place for 1 night and some sleep and a shower, OK maybe it will be OK, other then that I wouldnt want to be caught dead in this place! A far cry from when it was in its Hey Day

The hotel is in a transitional phase but it is in a great location right next door to the Hilton Hawaiian Village. You can use the beach at the Hilton and eat at their restaurants, so this is a great price to stay and explore all that Honolulu/Waikiki has to offer.

Its been in a transitional phase for at least the past 3 yrs! and each yr I get over there (for the TS $$) the place looks worse and worse off

As for location if the HHV is where a person wants to hang , then maybe but its a nice walk from the hussle and bussle that is Waikiki. and the TS rooms lacked any Wow to them , hate to see what the hotel rooms look like

I just feel with the economy as it is $81 should buy a person alot more on PriceLine

Agreed. I haven't checked the going Priceline rates on Biddingfortravel.com recently but I would imagine that they are getting pretty low.

My cousins have a condo in the Ilikai so my experience has been very positive, but it is sad to see the various public areas closing down. I cannot speak for the quality of the hotel rooms but it wouldn't surprise me if they are also going downhill.

Personally, I love the location with the beautiful sunsets and the ability to easily walk through the Hilton. Ilikai rooms faxing the Hilton can now also hear the Hilton's luau, which has been moved to the top of the parking garage (odd place for a luau...).

Fwiw, the Hyatt and Marriott go for about $100, and the Prince is about $75. Any of these would be preferable (by a wide margin) to the Ilikai.

Well I dont know if $81 will get a person a room with an Ocean View

I usually stay dont stay on the Ocean and never missed a sunset that I wanted to see, simply walk across the street and grab a seat. true Im not in my room but I like it much better with everyone hanging around and the street performers going at it

Now if there was a Hot Tub on my balcony with a sunset view Id agree with You Id rather watch from there. But with a few miles of beach front , Thankfully I dont need to be based at The Ilikai or even the HHV

Nice prices. Definitely agree with staying at one of them instead.

At the Prince right now, thanks to Priceline ($74). View of Marina/ocean. Priceline added value in HNL. :) Only here for one night. In fact, I was about to do a search for restaurants nearby.

Used to stay at the Ilikai long ago. Not any more. Things have gone downhill from the days when Jack Lord first stood on its balcony.

I can't say I have been inside, but I take a cab to/from downtown 5 days/month from the Marriott Waikiki. The Ilikai looks like it might fall down at any moment.

I certainly wouldn't walk into it, much less plan a stay even if it was free.

It has been lawsuit heaven for years with a major investor refusing to pay his HOA fees since he bought 50-60 units. So no maintenance has been able to be done.

I read that they are closing. Going bankrupt?

I read that they are closing. Going bankrupt?

That's the insider buzz. Supposedly back in July they were shutting their doors to nightly hotel guests.

Is it safe to have a reservation there?

I'd say probably in the near term. The hotel was forclosed on earlier in the year and a company called iStarFinancial took posession of it. They reopened a couple of weeks after the MSNBC story broke, after some negotiations with the hospitality workers unions. The hotel manager jumped ship in August for undisclosed reasons and an independent hospitality management company took over in tandem with Aqua Hotels, a local company that tends to specialize in budget minded properties.

Personally I just wouldn't confirm anything with a prepaid arrangement until the dust settles.
