Starwood Preferred Guest - Does the *wood track previously used corp/SET rates?

I recently called the Plat desk to make a reservation and I requested a particular rate, by company name. The agent was unable to locate the rate by name. Knowing the company had recently been acquired by another, I asked her to check under new parent company's name, which she found and the rate was as expected. All perfectly normal and expected but then...

She spontaneously volunteered "your XYZ rate is lower". XYZ being my previous employer! And no, it is not listed in my profile.

I stuck with the higher, and legitimate, rate but was surprised to learn SPG apparently tracks previous SET use.

Have other FTers experienced this?

That might be due to that your previous SET number was still tagged to your SPG account. It also shows that not anyone can tamper with our member's records. If your previous SET number has been replaced with a new one, our system does reflect that.

We are also able to look at your previous stay records and check the rates being used and therefore retrieve information on the previous SET rate.

I once received a letter from the Sheraton Heathrow saying that as a valued employee of Sony I was entitled to specially negotiated rates.

I don't work for Sony but maybe one day I will and then I know where to get good rates. ;)

Thanks Thyetus!

FWIW as sophisticated as the SPG data tracking/mining/reporting appears to be, it would be nice to see some of this available via the website. Allowing members to better search and track stays, points, reprint folios, etc. would be very nice compared to the current "My Recent Activity" interface.

A few years ago I joined AAA and I started using the AAA rate for Starwood hotel reservations when it worked out to be the lowest available rate. The following year my Platinum SPG card came with a AAA symbol in the lower right corner. So, yes, I believe that SPG tracks these types of things.

I also wonder if they have a record that shows I snore loudly, since lately I have gotten rooms in seemingly out-of-the way parts of the hotels that I have visited.
