Hello,

I'm booked on VA LAX-SYD-MEL-LAX and want to book separately SEA-LAX-SEA on VX and SYD-AKL-MEL on DJ next month - not possible on one PNR as far as I can tell - please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Is there some integration between the programs for mileage accruel and can I check baggage all the way through ?

quoting these contradictions:

luggage limits nasty-funny FAs who always interrupt you no luggage transfers/interlining grotesque loyalty program ... ok that one they share with QF

Gold's get 32kg, Silver/Flex 23KG and all others have the option to get 23KG for $8.

They interline with
-Emirates
-Thai
-Hawaiian
-United Airlines
- Malaysia Airlines
-V Australia
- Pacific Blue

They also do luggage transfers... in fact at SYD international Virgin Blue have a transfer desk for these connections.

As for the loyalty program, most fo the redemption rates are lower than the equivalent on QF.

What about VX ?

Thanks for responses !

VX and VA have an interline agreement, so baggage is transferred between the two carriers, and you can book from the VA website. It's not clear that this is what you are trying to do, though. You cannot yet accrue Velocity points for the VX legs of the flight, but you will be able to "early next year". You will also be able to use your VX points on VA next year, and vice versa.

What I'm trying to find out is:

When I check my bags on VX in SEA, can they be labeled all the way through to AKL - my destination on DJ ?

Yes, that is what baggage interline means. Note for the return journey you will need to claim bags in LAX and redeposit after customs.

Hang on, there. The interline is with VA, not DJ. It is unclear as to whether or not this will work.

Checkout http://vaustralia.com/ . VA is owned by DJ and have an interline with VX. VA also has Red.

If booking on the VA website (above), be careful choosing your US-based flights as VA interline with other US carriers as well - it is easy to spot the VX flight numbers (they start with VX). Also make sure you select USA up the top of the page if it happens to auto-selects AU.

I couldn't find a way to book the itinerary you've posted, so you may need to give VA a call. They'll probably be able to book it over the phone, but I'd also ask if you can book your own segments and then add them all to the one itinerary later.

Let us know how it goes. I'm interested to know if you can do this.

VX and V Australia do have an interline agreement, so baggage would be checked through.

the original booking for both airlnes needs to be made through V Australia, and needs to be one booking in order for the baggage check-thru portion to work.

VX can't originate, touch the booking, or make any changes, apart from assigning seats or adding an Elevate number.

Again, there are three airlines here. So, you can't assume that the bags will make it all the way through.

While VA and VX have an interline agreement, it is only for reservations that are booked together under one PNR through V Australia. If you purchase two separate tickets, or two separate roundtrips, your bags will NOT be checked all the way through.
If you do purchase the trip as one reservation, I believe the bags can be through checked to DJ flights (not positive), but wouldnt you have to reclaim your luggage upon arrival in Australia to go through customs?
