Got a car yesterday, drove it to the hotel, got in the car this morning and there is a hairline crack about 6 inches. I had to get to work, but now that I'm off work the crack is about 10 inches. Nothing hit the windshield that i know of while the car was in my possession, but this crack appeared in my possession.

If I return the car now instead of in 3 days are they more likely to believe it happened before I took possession? Am I pretty much on the hook at this point is non-impact glass stuff all part of normal wear and tear?

This happened to me once. I'd call Avis and let them know. If your credit card or comapny picks up the insurance then you should only have to fill out a form when you drop it off and that should be that.

However, when I did call to report it to Avis, they "strongly suggested" that I call the local police to have them come out and fill out a police report. I flat-out told them that I didn't have time for that kind of nonsense (and, most likely, neither did the local law enforecement officers).

Avis made me fill out an incident report, but didn't take any insurance from me. I used my citi professional card which I believe is primary since it's a business master card so if anything shows up on it I'll just call them up to dispute/have them deal with it.
