I think I've seen this but did a search and couldn't find anything. Can I give my points away seeing I'm done with Choice hotels? It seems like if the person who owns the points was not checking in there was a problem.

If you really want to give them away, the "jtaft points recycling center" would be more than happy to try and convert them to Southwest Rapid Rewards credits in my account. ;) More seriously, the Choice website says the following on rules and regulations at http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/GPRules?sid=_nozi.fb2KSgBJtg.7#awards: 6. Upon check-in, hotels are encouraged to ask guests to show positive ID for all reward night stays. 20. A member may redeem a reward night for an immediate family member (spouse, partner, children, parents, in-laws, brothers and sisters). Immediate family members (spouse, partner, children, parents, in-laws, brothers and sisters) can use the free night even if the member is not occupying the room. So since in-laws are accepted you should have little trouble using your points to gift a free room to someone else. scrog Sep 15, 09, 7:29 pm Thanks jtaft, It looks like my brother will be happy. I'm going to print those rules out so he can carry them with him in case they hassle him. Regards, scrog soitgoes Sep 15, 09, 7:35 pm It looks like my brother will be happy. Just to make things easier you should list your brother's name in the comments when making the award reservation and perhaps call or e-mail the hotel in advance. scrog Sep 16, 09, 4:35 am I will do that soitgoes, thanks. scrog Drummer Sep 16, 09, 9:05 am 20. This seems to be a fairly new restriction. In the past (as recently as 11 months ago) I have been able to redeem award nights for friends and colleagues as well. MikeInMass Sep 16, 09, 10:51 pm This seems to be a fairly new restriction. In the past (as recently as 11 months ago) I have been able to redeem award nights for friends and colleagues as well. Back in May I was able to book eight rooms at a single hotel one weekend for visiting family and friends. I did note each checking-in party's name in the comments, and faxed the hotel management a list of confirmation numbers matched up with the names. Now in hindsight this sounds like a very YMMV thing to do, but they were also getting a bunch of paying business out of me at the time and were far from full so I had no complaints. toomanybooks Sep 17, 09, 2:23 pm There's no official policy I know of allowing this but in the past I have been able to use my Choice points to purchase airline credits on Southwest for my wife or daughter. Just for completeness, I'll point out that I was NOT able to redeem my Choice points into WN credits for my wife. I tried, and they were automatically put into MY account, without even an email to alert me. YMMV. Brendan Sep 22, 09, 5:33 pm In Dec. 2007 I used my Choice points to give a gift of a stay to my buddy-ess & her boyfriend. I had to reserve in my own name, then call the hotel mgr. to explain & have him notate the res. that they would be there & I would not. someday Sep 23, 09, 11:13 am I would give the hotel a call and advise them they will arrive before you. |
