Budget Travel - Leaving clothes in motel room?

I just got home and realized I left my nice golf shirt and pants in the drawer in the motel room where I was staying. Has anybody ever left anything and successfully had it shipped back (via COD) or otherwise?
Any other thoughts before I call the hotel?
Thanks.

You should call ASAP. I have forgotten stuff too and have called and gotten it back about 2/3 of the time. Good luck.

Yep, been there, done that. I once left all my hanging clothes!! Got everything back no problem.
Definately call, find out who they use for shipping and go from there.
Best of luck!

Definitely done that once before and I called them as soon as I realised it, which was a few hours after I had checked out. The hotel manager was very helpful and I got all my clothes back! Good thing I was not too far away from the hotel, so a half hour drive back solved my problem! Good luck to you!

I used to be a manger at a hilton, this happened all the time....
Housekeeping will set it aside with what room it was found in and what dates, and if you call in they will fedex it to you for a fee, simple as that!! Only way its not worth it is if the fedex fee outweighs the value of the item....

I also have done this.
On one occasion where the items were of low value and not worth shipping, I asked the hotel if they would keep them until I was back in the area 2 months later and they obliged.
I rewarded them for their courtesy with repeat business.

I’ve had things returned to me for no charge, even though I offered to pay. The OP mentioned this was a motel in the thread title, so maybe doing something like using a UPS account to generate a prepaid label for the motel to receive via an email link. The only thing they would have to do is print out the label, tape it to the box and call 800-PICK-UPS.

I left a jacket that was a service award from my company in a room at WDW a couple years ago ~ they sent it to me gratis. I was required to give a description of the item (easy since it had an embroidered logo, etc), but they didn't charge for shipping costs ~ the rate on the resort 'budget' hotels were still pretty expensive, I'm sure there was margin for about $6 USPS :D
I intentionally leave things in hotel rooms. When I travel for leisure I usually take past-prime clothing and leave it behind instead of laundering and repacking. I'm usually shopping and acquiring anyway. ;) I leave unwanted items in a bag with a note to the effect the items have been left intentionally and to "Discard or Donate"....

I left my shaving kit that contained my blood pressure medication in my room in Muine Vietnam I went to the bus company office when I got to Nha Trang and they called the GH I had stayed in and instructed the office in Ho-Chi Minh City to have the driver of the next days bus to pick it up for me,I had it the following evening.I gave the driver a nice tip and he looked at me with great surprise aas if he hadn't done anything special. He went way beyond normal service as did the other people involved

A member of the Danish Equestrian Team, left his Dressage Top Hat, in some accomodation I rented him some years ago. The problem was he had flown to Atlanta from Scotland for the Olympics, so I had to send the Hat to him, I never did get the cost of the postage back, which was a small fortune. Sadly he didn't win a Medal either.
Cheers Larry.

I left some ugly t-shirts that a business partner had given me in my sheraton room in Taipei several years ago. I returned to this Sheraton for a business trip about 2 yrs later and when I checked in, they saw a note in the computer, went into the back office and brought out the gaudy shirts I'd tried to get rid of, wrapped in a bow.

I lost a white shirt this weekend (one of my faves) and so far no luck in getting it back. It was packed and a friend wanted to borrow it, but tried it on and just took it off. Never ended back in my bag... Being the same color as the sheets, I think it was stripped down with the bed and may be lost forever if they send out their linens.
Calling the night shift tonight as he was very nice and I am hoping he can locate it for me....

I have left things behind on purpose with a note. Never had any attempt to contact me about it. My husband left his manicure set behind in a hotel and called almost immediately but it was never found.
I have found items in hotel drawers. There have been threads on that on FT. Some things were not so nice. Others were shoes. Since some people leave shoes in the drawers, I'm reluctant to use that space for my clean clothes.
