Swiss International Airlines - struggling to find availability one way to MIA with SWISS

Hi there,

I have been loking at expertflyer for all sorts of combinations to MIA this christmas. There seem to be light loads in business class at this time, but still no award availability.

On the return leg, there are business award seats most days.

Why? are they holding back some award seats given the time of year and hoping the seats will sell?

LX and LH revenue management hold award business and first class seats on popular winter routes like MIA and MCO, especially on Xmas time, up to the last minute hoping they will be filled with revenue passengers.

However, one to two week prior to the flight if the seats are not filled with revenue passengers they start to release some award seats hopping to fill the plane instead of sending it empty.

It is common business practice not just with LX and LH but with all airlines including BA.

I think there is nothing strange, just common airline practice as others have said.

For info, I made business class (I) reservations TXL - MIA 2 months ago and had to change dates to find the outbound (LX) and the return leg is from MCO rather than MIA (LH).

I was also rather perplexed at the time.
