Hello,
This is my first visit to CPH and when I land, I will be taking the SJ X2000 train to Vaxjo Sweden.
Do I take this train ride direct from the CPH airport? It says KBH LUFH KASTR - Alvesta STN, X2000 then Alvesta stn to Vaxjo stn.
I never thought I could travel directly from the airport train station to another country. I would think it would be the airport to the central train station in Copenhagen and then off to Sweden?

That's the beauty of some of the major European airports: regional trains do make a call at major airports. The train that you board from CPH originates from Copenhagen Central Station. You can buy your train ticket (cash or credit card) at the airport and they will tell you what time you board the train.

The airport is on the main train line between Copenhagen and Malmo (in Sweden) - so going into Copenhagen would be going in the exact opposite direction to where you want to go.
You shouldn't really think of it as international traffic... even before the bridge was built people were commuting between the two towns; I understand that these days a sizeable proportion of the Copenhagen workforce lives in Sweden.

The ticket says Kastrup which is the airport.
A quick check shows that trains are either direct Kastrup-Alvesta or you'll have to change in Malmö. You will never change in Copenhagen.

I appreciate the help. I have not traveled much by rail in Europe (Paris to Lyon once in college), so I wanted to make sure I was up to date on how this would work Many thanks!

That's right, never a need to backtrack from CPH (airport) to central Copenhagen. Train change at Malmo and/or Alvesta to get to Vaxjo is quite common.

Before the bridge (and the train) it was mostly the boat or sometimes the helicopter to get between Skane and CPH.
A lot of Danes -- especially those Danes involved with Swedes or non-EU nationals -- live in Skane. And a lot of Swedes and others living in Skane work in Copenhagen. There are rather new neighborhoods around Malmo and around Malmo South rail station that have a significant proportion of Danes as property owners or renters. The situation today is a lot different than it was in 2001 and early 2002.

Just make sure you take the right train from Copenhagen Airport. There are two different train operators (SJ and DSBFirst) who don't accept each others' tickets.
The SJ X2000 looks like this:

Do not take this one, which might also go to Alvesta/Växjö:

Carefully check the departure time on you ticket and the monitors at the platform and you'll be fine.

Thanks, I know my ticket is on SJ because I bought it on their website and printed out my ticket, so I am set! This has been a great site with great advice, it has put my mind at ease. Thank you!;)

Sorry, this is not entirely correct. SJ do sell tickets to DSB trains.
My journey home yesterday included an Öresundståg Copenhagen-Malmö, followed by X2000 to Linköping, all on an SJ ticket.
(However, I agree that imacstud's ticket did sound like it was an X2000 from CPH.)

You're quite right, SJ does indeed sell tickets for the DSBFirst trains. But those are only valid on DSBFirst Øresundståg, not X2000. So I could have been clearer: The point is that the ticket is only valid on the train type it is made out for (no matter who sold it).
Another example is the weekend Veolia trains between Malmö Syd and Stockholm C. In addition to Veolia itself, SJ sells tickets for them, but those tickets are only valid on Veolia.
To make things even more complicated, on the West Coast Line (From Copenhagen towards Helsingborg, Halmstad and Göteborg) SJ runs an Inter City service with X31K trains looking just like those of DSBFirst, but only SJ tickets are valid. And for Øresundståg going between Copenhagen and Kalmar, it is actually SJ that staffs and runs the train between Alvesta and Kalmar.
