Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Luggage Storage CHC Airport

Hello All

I plan on spending a day trip (morning flight in/very late night flight out) to Christchurch.
Am wondering if there's a luggage storage area available within the terminal.
I have a JQ flight to AKL at 22.45, can't check in till 9pm and obviously dont want to lug my bags around.
Also is there a good transfer to/from airport-city?

Yes, there is a luggage storage facility in the international terminal, just past the check in counters. Here's some info -

Generally, they're open until 6:00 p.m. but do stay open later for international flights.

There are several inexpensive bus services into the city, including one that is only $5.00. There may be others, but the location I am familiar with is outside the international terminal - if you were exiting customs you would turn left. However, due to the terminal undergoing major reconstruction, you may wish to check.

If you only have a little time (say a few hours) at CHC, a fun thing to do is visit the International Antarctic Centre right next door. You can walk over. Five minute walk, I think you follow little white footprints to get there.

Check your luggage and walk over. Make sure you visit the "cold room". You get all parka'd up, and they turn down the temperature and speed up the wind. Simulating Antarctic condiitons. Lot's of good information on the whole operation. Whole thing takes an hour or so.

I seem to remeber one of the shops near the domestic luggage carousal has/had storage.

In any case, luggage storage does exist; I've used while hitting the Antarctic centre.

JQ = budget carrier.
Don't want to know you until 2 hours prior (if the staff can be bothered...)
Not like QF NZ or others.

Don't JQ in NZ have Web Check-in like they do in Oz?

NZ check-in at SYD doesn't want to know about you 4hours before your flight. I know i tired it last week.


Note: Eat in town before returning to the airport, the food selection is poor & very over priced at the Airport.
