I flew AY for the first time last month from JFK-ICN and NRT-JFK. I enjoyed AY so much that I'm flying it again from JFK-BKK in November.

But I can't fly back to JFK from Asia on AY because the JFK flight departs from HEL before all of the Asian flights arrive. Does anyone from AY not find it strange that one cannot connect to JFK from their Asian flights? With thanks from an SQ and *A refugee.

AY096 BKK - HEL is the only overnight flight from Asia as far as I know. Departs BKK at 0:30am and arrives HEL at 6am. I personally would love to have similar flights from other destinations but departures ex-Asia are normally around 10am and arrival at HEL 2-3pm.

DEL - HEL should also have connections to New York as it's part of the strategy on this route.

Just a little warning... their BKK route is getting new Airbuses sooner than planned, but the timetable still shows mixed Airbus/MD11 metal in November.

Yes their JFK-Asia connections are under construction still, the timetables are fixed to serve the European connections. They have big plans for the JFK-Asia traffic but the economical situation has slowed things, hopefully future looks better.

Do you have a timetable of when the MD-11 is retired? Would love to fly it before it's retired

Their last MD11 destinations are BKK and DEL.
The timetable changes, but right now it seems the last AY MD11 flight is the DEL-HEL February 2nd 2010, their DEL route is getting MD11 for the mid winter, around Dec-Jan.
The BKK route says good bye to MD11 in December, mixed metal in service before that.

AY's booking site is a quick way to check the details.

I've checking pretty much every week for the last few months, was hoping to go to BKK on March when it was originally due for retirement, now it's gone back to December, probably cutting it too fine for me :(
