El Al Matmid - LY323 to Paris equipment change
It seems that LY is back to its "old devils": LY323/324 will not be exclusively operated with 777s: some flights will be operated with antiquated 767s, and a lot will be operated with 747s, to my astonishment, even during low season...
Why?
Are the 777s going to tech?
If the 777s don't fly to CDG, where do they fly between the long-haul flights?Or do they stay on the ground?

elal sometimes lease 777 flights to tour operators.
for example, a hi-tech company is going in october to Osaka with a direct 777 flight with ElAl.

London also seems to look bad, instead of the present 744, 777; and 767 on most days, it's going down to 777, 767 and 757:mad:

But LY315/316 are always operated by 744/777s, and never 767s, right?(LY317/318 is another story though)

In the 3 weeks between the end of school vacations and Rosh Hashana there is a sharp decrease in traffic in all routes and I guess this is the time to do some maintenance work on the hard working widebodies. On the high holidays, traffic to N America and Europe is on the rise again and there is a sharp decrease again after Succot (2nd week of Oct). That time signals the end of the high tourist to the west (Europe and N. America) and the beginning of the high season of the Far East. In winter, BKK usually gets a daily 744 or 777 rather than a 767, BOM also gets a bigger plane and CDG and LHR get an equipment downgrade periodically because of this. This is normal and typical for LY and happens every year. It is also quite typical for an airline with a small fleet and seasonal schedule.

It is also quite typical for an airline with a small fleet and seasonal schedule.Well not just airlines with small fleets...
BA have just downgraded the TLV service (From end of Oct) to twice daily 767 instead of 777 operating one of the daily flights.
But this is once again for the winter schedule only (I hope...)

When LY receives its 4 next 777s, it will get better...A shame they only arrive from 2011... I hope the next CEO will accelerate the delivery of the new planes as well as order 787s.
For 2 days in a row, LY325/326 had a 2-hour delay...And guess which plane is involved...an antiquated 767, 4X-EAD!!!

Remember the winter schedule is extremely intense on the large aircraft. Something like;
JFK - 8 flights per week
EWR - 7
LAX - 3
GRU - 3
BKK - 6
HKG - 4
And return is at least 62 flights per week of between 11 and 16 hours each all done with a fleet of six 772's and 5 744's! These aircraft have to go in for maintenance and checks at some time before all of this starts happening.
