Budget Travel - Suggestions for Columbus Day Weekend Getaway

Hi Everybody,

I am looking for some suggestions for Columbus Day Weekend getaway. Columbus Day is Monday October 12 and I will be taking that Tuesday off as well. I am looking to travel domestically within the United States only. I would like to visit some place with alot of history. There will be two of us and we are in the DC area so I fly out of BWI, Dulles or Reagan National. Is anybody traveling on Columbus Day weekend, if so where? Maybe that will give me some ideas.

If history is your thing, consider Savannah, GA esp if http://www.scad.edu/ has something interesting on. Mind you, it's not exactly the busiest town in peak season, so it might be a bit quiet offseason. Check that stuff is actually open. There's a very good place that everyone always mentions called Pinks or the Pink House or the Red House...I think it has a color in it, anyway.
