Hello, I'd like to ask you SQ experts on the connection to Jetstar in SIN. I will be traveling to DPS next April and have never flown SQ before.
Flights are:
NRT-SIN on SQ (award ticket)
SIN-DPS on Jetstar
connection time is about an hour.
Seems like I will have to go through immigration, pick up luggage, and change terminal to check in again. Am I correct?? If so, seems like 1 hour could be too little time considering possible delay. (and with elderly in our group of 3) I cannot find any accurate info and need your help. Thank you!

it does not seem enough. arriving on SQ is in T2 or T3 and jetstar is in T1?
(i am not from singapore, but i connect to JS from MU before.)
there seem to be a transfer desk for jetstar, but i was told that i had to get my boarding pass outside (by people at the lounge.)

1 hour is insufficient. Jetstar Asia (3K) does not interline, thus you'd need to clear immigration at SIN, collect bags from SQ, change terminals and re-check in. Even if the flight is on time you will miss check in cut-off (deadline is 40 minutes before departure and strictly enforced).

Just a point of information. The Jetstar flights to Bali fall under the Jetstar Australia International Shorthaul umbrella because DPS is just a stopover 4 days weekly (1, 3, 5 and 6) en route to PER with the same flight number for both sectors, so the flights are designated JQ not 3K. The other days are operated by affiliate Valuair, which remains separate only because of licensing issues in Indonesia, which are designated VF. Both are attractive because the flight is only a little over 2 hours and JQ/VF fares are typically USD 200 compared to USD 600 on SQ which is giving essentially free add-ons to DPS for European through traffic and trying to fill the remaining seats with intra-Regional traffic at premium prices.
That said, 1 hour is definitely not long enough to make the connection at SIN. In fact, you actually have only 55 Minutes in transit so the JQ checkin will be closed before you land.

Thanks for the info.
JQ has very few interline partners, so I'd still give the same advice whether it is JQ or 3K.

JQ does not interline with SQ so there is no chance of a through check-in at NRT. JQ closes checkin 1 hour before International departures so I agree that a 55 Minute transit is impossible.

Thanks, pbd456, Kiwi Flyer and philipat for your advice. I am SO glad I asked.
I found flights with 1 hour and 25min connection.
NRT-SIN 11:00-17:40
SIN-DPS 19:05-21:40
However, based on your advice I would still imagine that this is risky.
After I read your posts, I am now considering 2 nights in Singapore before heading to Bali. Singapore is a great city, and this way, we'll have more fun and nothing to worry about. On the way back, the connection time in SIN is 6 hours.
DPS-SIN 15:25-17:35
SIN-NRT 23:40-7:50
I only have access to ST lounges. (with any tickets) Do any of you know if I will be able to use any ST lounge in SIN flying with SQ on the way back? (Once we're at the gate I am guessing we won't have access)
Thank you very much again. This was so informative.

i am asia based NW gold elite. there is no sky club and a lounge for NW flight is opened for us from 3-6am. i dont think that would be useful to you. not sure if there is any other lounge for ST. but i looked around for an hour trying to find lounge access from my worldclub membership, but no luck.
i used plaza-premium lounge myself (from credit card, but can be paid to be admitted.)
good luck.

No lounge access with ST, flying SQ. However, Changi is one of the best airports to have a 6 hour layover. Take your time clearing Terminal 1 on the way in- stop by the pool or the sunflower garden. Then after dropping off your bags at Terminal3, you might think about hopping on the shuttle over to Terminal 2- they have some very good restaurants on the second floor above departure. Finally, back to Terminal 3 for shopping (free samples at the duty free!), check out the new butterfly garden or catch up on your internet- pretty soon it will be time for your flight out...
Now, I would do a 1 hour 25 minute transit from SQ to Jetstar- and I'd be at the gate with an hour to spare. But I don't check bags, nor do I have elderly in tow- you are wise to budget a stopover instead.

A stopover will eliminate a lot of the rushing and hassles. Not a bad choice if you got the time and don't mind seeing the city. Three days / Two nights is a good duration.
Cheers ...

How do you guarantee your flights are on time or early? That would be a neat trick.

Agreed KF. The only way I would take such a transit at SIN would be with an SQ/SQ connex where there would be a good chance of both being on time and even holding connecting flights, depending upon the numbers of passengers involved. Which is reasonable.

I have much better idea of SIN now thanks to everyone here. I'll do stopover and also might change to Air Asia instead of Jetstar. It seems cheaper.
Thanks!

AirAsia can be slightly cheaper BUT if you like a glass of wine with a snack, remember that AirAsia is DRY. No alcohol permitted (Even your own) although very short skirts are OK. Hypocrisy rears irs ugly head again!!
Incidentally, the quality of onboard snacks for sale is, IMHO, very much better on JetStar and their basic online fares include 20Kg baggage allowance. AirAsia will charge you for every gram over 15Kg.

I did not guarantee that the SQ flight from NRT would be on time or early. I merely stated that "I would do a 1 hour 25 minute transfer" at SIN. Yes, if SQ637 is over 45 minutes late, I would be pressed to make my connection- but I cannot recall the last time I had an SQ flight arrive that late. So like I said, I would risk it, particularly if flying on a Jetflex fare...
