Travel with Pets - Best Time of Day To Fly

During the winter months, what time of day do people recommend flying?
My dog will be checked baggage so I want to avoid any delays as much as possible. Therefore I was thinking morning was probably the best.
We are flying from JFK to SFO. On the way back I was thinking that no matter what time I left SFO we'd get in at night in JFK due to time change. Thoughts?
Thanks!!

I would always suggest the earliest flights possible.... the later in the day the more likely the possibility of cancellations/delays that would require overnight stays.
If you took a redeye from SFO, you would arrive in New York in the early morning.

I fly that route all the time. The 7am flights are usually quick and painless. Also, you get into SFO with the entire day ahead of you. On the return trip, I prefer the redeye. The foot traffic later in the evening at SFO is usually very light at that time.

So... I'll have to be honest and say that I'm not a huge fan of red eye trips. I was looking at a departure time of about 2 or 3 pm from SFO to JFK which gets in around 9 or 10pm. Is that not good?

I would think that a late evening arrival time as opposed to taking a redeye makes sense as you can still feed your dog dinner when you reach NYC and not worry about this issue. If you take the redeye I would not recommend feeding your dog before the flight.
