Anyone a fan of this resort and have any advice to pass on? I'm only there in a Fairmont Room for two nights in early Oct. and don't really have much in the way of plans yet and really wouldn't be bothered by a few days of sun and rest/relaxation either. :p

I gather from some research it's a little way from old town Scottsdale but is transporation without a rental car decent? I see there is a shopping centre, Scottsdale Promenade, that's listed as less than a mile from the Fairmont so walkable I suppose even in the heat. I don't plan on renting a car and will likely get to the hotel by airport shuttle but anyone have an approximate cost on that?

Your feedback would be appreciated. :)

I've stayed there a few times, though last was about 14 months ago. Very pretty property, great restaurant over at the golf clubhouse. They have a limo that will take you to nearby places on a first-come, first-serve basis

Will be staying there next week. Will write a report (staying with a Friends and Family rate).

We stayed there in August for 9 nights.

The hotel in based in North Scottsdale, just off the loop 101. It is set well back from the Scottsdale road so is a fair walk just to get off the property.

The hotel is spread out over a wide area and has 5 pools (including the pool in the Spa). The grounds are keep in superb condition. We stayed in the casita blocks which are set away from the main block and have their own small pool. The rooms in the casitas are getting a but dated but are clean and well maintained.

There is a complementary kids club and a paid for National Geographic club which will keep the kids out of your hair if you have any (kids, not hair). The Sanoran Splash pool has a zero depth walk in and two slides.

The Spa is lovely but $47 dollars just to go in (We were comped a day by the Spa manager who we got talking to by the pool one day). Treatments start at about $60.

The staff were superb when we were there. Nothing was too much trouble, once known, our names were always used. We did not eat at the hotel this time so can not comment on LV Bistro and The Bourbon Steak house. The Grill at the golf club was closed in the evening (low season).

It is a great place to chill out.

There are a number of shopping areas close to the hotel, but I think you would be walking more than a mile. Old Town is up to 30 minutes away by car if you go down the Scottsdale road. The concierge service is excellent at telling you where things are and will not doubt have transportation options for you.

Is there a separate fee for the spa if you are getting a massage there? I understand there is a special for Sweedish massages for $60. The Mrs. and I are condidering a side by side massage.

Well, we sayed at the Scottsdale Princess from Sept. 14 thru the 17th. We drove up, and they had our room info right at the car drop off point. We were given a standard room, was hoping for a gold floor update, but for $89/night, we weren't really expecting anything. The valet took our car and said that the $24/day wouldn't start until after the night period. We got our car for our dinner reservation, and since we have a handicapped placard, we asked where we could park the car, since we really didn't want the $24/day charge. We were told that with the placard, they would valet park the car with no charge. Very nice!!!

The hotel was very nice. We walked all over, and tried a few swimming pools. The pools are heated which is nice.

We asked about a massage, and after asking about "spa week", were told that we could get a 60 minute "relaxation massage" which normally costs $159 for $50, with access to the spa the entire day. Mrs. Doggy Daddy and I each signed up for one at the same time (but not together). They charged us $50 for the massages, but also charged us $30 each for the gratuity which would have applied to the original price. Since this all goes to the massager (I asked her), this was really fair, and I had no objection. This was my first massage and it was great. Pre massage, we used the roof top pool, and the co-ed waterfall room, and then each used the facilities in the locker room which consisted of a steam room, a sauna, a sweedish shower, an inhallation room, a cool and heated plunge pool, private showers, and drinks and dried fruits, robes, shower shoes, and other goodies. The massage was great. We wore only our robes, and were made to feel very comfortable. The hour just flew by, and it was very relaxing.

The staff was very accomodating, and when possible, also called us by name. We would like to come back some time - hopefully to the gold floor (actually an entire separate wing).

Sounds like a great getaway with some spa time, Doggy Daddy, and thanks for the update. :) Looking forward to the getaway. ^

I stayed there a while back but I have to agree that the spa is very nice. It probably ranks up there as one of the best spa treatments I have ever had and IMHO well worth the expense.

Apparently, spa week is twice a year, so if your plans are flexible, you may be in luck. BTW, we had turndown service nightly, and two papers delivered to the door every morning, the NY Times and the Arizona Republic.

Stayed there in May the week before they shut down the Gold lounge.

Fantastic service, the Gold lounge staff was great and were able to arrange anything asked of them.

Breakfast spread was nice as well. Wonderful Eggs Bennedict and a great way to start out a workday.

Evening honor bar was extensive and well stocked.

Unfortunately everything is a bit of a treck outside of the hotel but on property it's beautiful with bunnies, well manicured lawns and great pools.

Fully agree - I'm a bit of a spa diva and this is probably the best one I've ever been in. Amazing!

FYI, this property has a resort feel and therefore is not near anything really. Everything from shopping to off site restaurants will require car service.
