This will be my first time flying Turkish.
(As part of a larger itinerary) I have a ticket issued by my corporate travel agent for BGW-IST-LHR with a one-hour connection between the two flights. I assume that's a legal connection, otherwise the ticket wouldn't be issued? Any frequent fliers with experience of IST able to give me any guidance on this connection please?
Thanks in advance.

If you are flying with Turkish all the way, shouldn't be a problem. They're usually pretty flexible with their own transit passengers.

Thanks. Both legs are on Turkish.

I would be cautious because of all the delays at IST these days.

Assuming your first leg is on time you should be fine. I've just done LHR-IST-HKG with a 90 min connection and it was more than enough, I even had time to visit the lounge.

When you get to IST follow the signs for Transit passengers, ignoring the normal passport control. (There is a Turkish Airlines transit desk in Terminal 2 who can print your IST-LHR boarding pass if you need it.)

Right next to the TK Transit Desk is an escalator up to the departures area. There is a person manning this barrier and the procedure here seemed to vary. Last Friday night the man on the barrier simply checked my BP & passport then let me through. This morning when I went through, I had to go to a nearby lady, who was manning a temporary looking podium (no queue however), she checked the docs, put a sticker on my passport and sent me back to the man who now let me through. Once up the escalators, there is a set of screens that show which gate to go to for your connecting flight. These screens didn't seem the most up to date, so you might want to check the ones that are near (I believe) gates 215-218.

One thing to be aware of is that you will have a secondary security check at your departure gate, so don't bother buying any water to take on the plane with you. Though I'd personally be interested to know what happens with any airport duty free purchases?

Enjoy the flights, they offer some nice food.

Thanks to all. To close the loop on this one, I did make the connection ... it was a bit of a scramble. BGW flight arrived pretty much on-time. But there was a long delay for the airbridge to show up. Then all the passengers were funneled into a small entry way so we could be screened again. It was a long and slow process. Not sure what we could have gotten up to on the plane that required another screening, given that we were screened five times in Baghdad, including twice by explosives-sniffing dogs! Any road, once clear of the initial luggage scan, I made my way to the transit desk. It was now 1255 for 1310 departure. Had to wait a few mins as the desk staff seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than helping us! Got a boarding pass issued. Made my way upstairs again and got to the gate to find a long wait for another luggage screening (as mentioned by previous poster). Long story short, the IST-LHR flight didn't leave until 1350. And I thought the food was inedible :(, especially on the BGW-IST leg. But my mileage credit (for IST-LHR) did show up on UA account within two days. I have to wait another ten days to file for the BGW-IST flight as the check-in agent at Baghdad laughed at me when I showed him my United 1K (*G) card. It was all manual data entry. The boarding pass had a sticker with my seat number on it.
