This was announced months ago albeit with some differences. It's in line with what other intercontinental carriers are doing - not sure why you think this is annoying though, perhaps you need to see what's happening in the industry nowadays.

I'd agree however, the way VS has implemented this, with key changes along the way, smacks of immaturity.

I thought it was an increase for regular PE passengers like me. I was happy to see PE no longer been treated same as Y, and with my Gold card, I can now carry 3 bags X 23kg.

Not a bad deal to PE, perhaps not that good for J and Y. But this policy was consistent across VS network, except US routes. Now it's all changed to the same.

Slinky, the original changes were UC 3x 32Kg to 3 x 23Kg
PE 2X32Kg to 2 x32Kg

Econ 2 x23Kg no change

this change is economy 1 X23Kg

What is annoying for economy passengers, not the gold card holdeds and those who can afford or the comapnyt pays for Upper Class, was that Virgin were different from the other airlines offering better touches than American carriers

because American carriers have downgraded their economy products does not mean that Virgin should do teh same.

many B & S passengers chose Virgin over the Charters because of this extra luggage allowance, but now Virgin "Ryanair" Atlantic has, compared to many charters:
worse leg room
Worse IFE
worse food

Compared to the totally inadequate American airlines (who, quite frankly should not be able to hide behind Chapter 11, rather die and leave the market to efficient airlines) they are now on a par instead of being miles above.
Whats next? take away the seat back IFE and replace with screens down the centre isle just because other airlines fly that way?

This is an extra tax from the Ryaniar school of crap on passengers.

This nonsense that the market is poor, there are too many airlines with poor service as Ch 11 allows them to keep on providing rubbish cattle class service and have too many seats for the actual amount of travelling public.

I suppose one could be peeved that the reduction of the baggage allowance on the USA sectors for passengers in Y (The majority of the people on the aircraft) is somehow a benefit. Only in a fairly perverse way is this a benefit.

"Passengers can now benefit from one of the simplest and most generous baggage policies in the industry," said Virgin spokesman Chris Birch. "It means lower charges for passengers wishing to take additional bags and a great allowance for those going on a sporting trip."

Hmmm, we reduce the baggage allowance to 1 because it's too complicated for you, you poor thing. If you want to carry an extra bag we're cheaper than the competition. (no mention that the other airline might be offering a cheaper fare).

VA must love it when other airlines offer worse and worse service because they can cut back further and still sell it as an enhanced product over the competition.

X years from now when VA stop serving free alcohol in Y I'm sure it will be spun as "In order to offer a more upmarket experience to our Y passengers we are replacing all out wines and spirits with the most prestigious brands you will find on the high street and these will be available at the lowest cost in the skies" So for 6 months you'll pay to get Bombay Sapphire, then after that you'll find yourself paying for Virgin Gin
