Wow what a deal! I hope I am reading the award chart right its based on total miles on the itinerary
Time to transfer those AMEX points I guess

Please take note that you have to look at the earning structure as well.
NH rarely gives 100% for Y and only 125% for C and 150% for F.
US Airways gives 100%, 200% and 300% and some routes are very inexpensive:
NRT-FRA-NRT in F is only 100.000 US Airways miles... On NH you would pay more both on NH metal and *A.

Actually, US Airways mainly gives 100%/150%/150% with a few exceptions.. and nowhere do they give 300%. Are you confusing them with BD/LH?

My bad - apologies. They indeed do not give 300%. Some *A routings between countries outside of the US are very inexpensive though.
A lot of people used the "buy miles" promotion recently and got First Class tickets like FRA-NRT for an all-in price of around 1.250 USD. (And we are talking decent European/Asian long-haul First Class here....)
I am actually considering switching to AMC from BD, mainly because redemption is so convenient with the infamous ANA booking engine. Too bad the COS bonus is pretty low with AMC.
NH has a distance-based chart so there are some city pairs that are real bargains. JFK-LHR clocks in at 63k for business class, for instance (VS Upper Class).
But NH becomes much less of a value as the point requirements climb for longer trips, for sure, and especially in premium cabins.
