Swiss International Airlines - Gold member upgrades

I am most probaly going to be reaching gold over the next year, my TA advised me that I should rather stick to Swiss, and not fly direct ELAL, because with Swiss gold members are very often upgraded into business, and by ELAL it's very rare.
Has anybody got any info to confirm or deny this?

Well the problem on LX 254 and 256 is that about 90% of the Y pax think that they have a god given right to be upgraded fro free. Swiss gate agents are specially trained and often share the most fivolous reasons they hear at the gate.

Certainly your Gold Status gives you a better chance for an automatic free opup, but I would not count on it. LX yield management has become pretty good these days. The upgrade on the A 320 does not give you anything special except a free seat besides you, the A 332 has the old C class seats cleary showing their age.

I can't comment on LY status perks but even as M&M SEN (or Swiss Gold as you call it) you won't get regular upgrades. Op-ups happen from time to time but as pointed out by Fendant you can't count on it.

Obviously if Y is not overbooked you will not get an upgrade anyway as Senator / Gold member. Nevertheless if the flight is overbooked chances are not bad. But please please Tel Aviv passengers a Gold / Senator status or even Hon Circle Status does not oblige the gate agent to upgrade you especially if the flight is not overbooked!!!!
