El Al Matmid - Gold members upgrades

I am most probaly going to be reaching gold over the next year, my TA advised me that I should rather stick to Swiss, and not fly direct ELAL, because with Swiss gold members are very often upgraded into business, and by ELAL it's very rare.
Has anybody got any info to confirm or deny this?

Depends on the route and time of year. In August I did BKK-TLV twice and TLV-BKK once. On both of the BKK-TLV routes I was upgraded without even having to give up any points due to overbooking. On TLV-BKK I was given a business seat with Y service.

If I do TLV-BKK on Thursday nights I have a 70% or so chance of an upgrade. I have pretty much 0% chance of ever being upgraded BOM-TLV but maybe 15% chance when flying TLV-BOM on Sunday night. Way too many Plats on that route for me to have much of a chance.

So I guess your question really should be how often to M&M SENs vs. LY GLs get upgraded on the TLV-ZRH-TLV route.

Your TA doesn’t know what he/she is talking about.
LY have one of the most generous upgrade policies in the industry.

I agree... I was both Senator and GL at the same time - I NEVER EVER got an upgrade from my Senator status but I got upgrades on LY almost 75% of the time (from S class) on all routes.
This is one of the the main reasons I fly LY.

I agree too. I am an LH Senator, I didn't even know that I am eligible to be upgraded!
