Nice addition to the AirTran network. Might have to try it sometime via an Orlando connection (too bad it's same plane service from ATL rather than MKE).
Interesting that they're using a 737 rather than a 717. They must see a lot of traffic on this route.

A co-worker of mine and her husband usually go to the keys in January, and she was excited to hear about it this morning. But even with the "web special" MKE-EYW is $434.00. So she said they're probably still going to use FLL, where she priced out $157.70 for the same day nonstop into FLL. Too bad...it's just such a long drive.
As for the 737 versus 717, from what I've heard both planes would face weight limits, but the 737's relative performance is better. Eastern used to send a 727-100, and Piedmont sent the F28, so while the runway is short it's still a reliable place to fly. (And a very nice place to be!)

I tried to look at prices earlier and Key West was not an option to pick yet. I lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area for 13 years and I know the drive to Key West all too well. There is a lot of trailer traffic on US 1 and it can be slow going at times. But at 434 dollars to fly... I think I would drive too.

Is it correct that Key West only has 4800 feet of runway?

Yes. 4801 ft. to be exact. They'll have to restrict the weight, plus use full thrust and probably the short field takeoff flap settings.

It wil have more weight restricted due to shorter runway and will have limited passengers out MCO-EYW.

I would think that EYW-MCO will have more severe restrictions than MCO-EYW, since landing distance is considerably shorter than takeoff distance.
The sustainability of this route is questionable It's a very pricey trip for the convenience. If it lasts beyond this winter, it's probably a good bet it will shrink to a 717.
We saw MKE-FLL shrink to a 717 after last winter, look for the same to happen on this route.
I noticeable where FL is getting very expensive is almost $400 for flying through ATL-MCO-EYW. This is not specific time for FL. I think airfares must to be reductions the reasonable price is less than $200 R/T. It will try to boost more capacity passengers through ATL-MCO-EYW. Due to issued any problems the weight restrictions. This is really big problems the entire aircraft are trying to landed into shorter runway. That's is impossible for trying to flying through EYW.

WOW going in there with a 73? DL used to have several nonstops daily MCO-EYW on RJs for years, but i did not know they were landing mainline Jets there.

DL charges $550 for this route with extreme advance purchase. Also, DL charges 3rd bag fee after 1st bag because of weight restrictions.
If we're getting sub $400 flights from ATL-EYW, then it will be the lowest rate in years with a huge boost in capacity for EYW.

This is real problems for high-price is flying for through ATL-MCO-EYW does not good timer for you at all. It should have in advance to be reduction the reasonable fares is less $200 R/T out of ATL hub. It need to take the advantage of reasonable price should have to be cheaper. IT should have to get cheap price is less than $200 R/T out of ATL-EYW. It will get special fares try to get fixed the price and need to get right time.
