Hi guys, was looking for some advice

My Wife and Myself are going to Australia for 3 weeks in December and intend to spend about 4/5 nights driving from Melbourne to Sydney and was wondering if people could suggest where to go on the way, things to stop and see and what roads to take etc.

We plan to go to Canberra and Batemans Bay but all advice is welcomed.

Thanks
Gwyn

I'd suggest visiting Taradale and Daylesford on the first day (about an hour's drive from MEL). http://www.visitdaylesford.com.au/Forms/Default.aspx

Welcome to FT loopylaa!

Daylesford is reportedly well worth a visit (not sure about Taradale though..driven through it many times and there's not much there that's obvious...there may well be something there I'm unaware of). Both are West of the Calder Fwy which in turn is some distance (~60km) west of the main road (Hume Fwy) to Sydney.

You could also try the Victorian High Country, essentially turn (right) off the Hume just North of Glenrowan or at Wangaratta. It is an hour or two from there to the ski fields (little or no snow in December though) where there is some great scenery around Bright, Mt Beauty, Mt Bogong and Mt Hotham. Beechworth has a noted bakery and a really good little museum. Would take a day (or two - depends) out of your schedule. You can reconnect with the Hume Fwy by cutting straight NW through to Albury/Wodonga.

There is also opportunity to visit the high country in NSW, but probably not as convenient as in VIC.
