This made me laugh - I was talking with someone only a few hours ago about this very thing - standing behind a mock up of the Washington State driver’s license and having your picture taken with a Polaroid. Late 70's high school days.......

We had a guy do that in my dorm when I was a Freshman at ASU. He charged $100 and did a pretty good job. His favorite states to use were WA and IL and he told me my home state of NY was the worst for fakes.

Back on topic...I do not know any Ikes either.

Curiously, my next door neighbor. Who lives in Houston.

Even if they had opened the promotion up to anyone with a name beginning with "I" would have had limited reach.

Ida, Ira, Ichabod, Ibrahim, Ivan, Igor, Ignatius, Itzhak, Isabelle, Ilsa, Irena...

There are more, but other than Isabelle, I don't know anyone personally with an I name, either. :D

My middle name is Isaac (and they say middle names do count), and Ike is a nickname for Isaac (though I would never call myself either.) Not sure how they would apply the rules, but can't think of any particular reason I would want to go to Houston next week either so why bother to call and ask

I forwarded the info to a person who's LAST name is Ike there, and the hotel immediately accepted it, too. So it is not just First or Middle names. She is absolutely thrilled.
--------------
"The Sheraton Houston Brookhollow Hotel is giving people whose first or middle name is Ike a free room night during the week of Sept. 13 to 19.
Ikes are required to show a driver’s license or other government-issued identification to qualify.
The hotel, located at Highway 610 near Highway 290, went through a $9.1 million renovation after the hurricane made significant damage last September.
“It’s certainly not a popular name to begin with, but if someone is named Ike, we’ll take care of him,” said Nancy Alonzo, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing."

Ike is one of Japanese family names, though it is rare.
We pronounce it as "EK". It means "pond".

You might have heard a famous haiku by Basho.

furu ike ya / kawazu tobikomu / mizu no oto

an ancient pond / a frog jumps in / the splash of water [1686]

my family would be thrilled. there are 5 boys in the family, all begin with I:

Ira, Irving, Ike, Ian, Ivan. plus we have 2 deceased brothers, Isaac and Isaiah.

since its only Ikes....I'm taking advantage of it tonight. as stated, there isn't much reason to come to Houston, no more six flags, no really good sports team (all pretty mediocre); luckily I already live here. we are taking it as a night away from home :).

btw, rumor also was free Hurricane drinks as someone reported to a radio station in town...but doubtful. it would be a "fun" promotion if it was free hurricanes :D

sadly, this is the only reason I registered at this forum...

thanks for this! we stayed on Saturday night, all I did was walk in, place my driver's license on the check in/front desk counter and he gave me the key to a room on the 8th floor (didn't take a credit card).

we stayed in an executive Starwood Preferred Guest room and it was quite nice. ordered room service for dinner and breakfast and never got a bill for anything... was told it was all taken care of :)

I'll probably stay there again if we ever want another night out, it was very aesthetically pleasing and everyone there was very nice.

by the way, welcome to ft. ^

now that you're here, look around and stay awhile. we're a friendly group, and my life has been enriched tremendously by what i've found here. maybe yours will be also.
